I've carried a 2 inch SP101 for years. It has ridden in my pocket just about everywhere and my daughter takes notice when, on a rare occasion in the kitchen, it isn't there, saying "Dad where's your friend?" Like everyone else(?) I sometimes get the bug for something different. With all the snazzy small autos and the spiffy titanium framed golly-whiz revolvers out there now, I wonder if my old friend could use a rest. But then I get to thinking really hard. I'm not a combat experienced man, and suspect that in a bad situation I would need all the simplicity I could get. So the autos aren't for me. And I sweat a lot. A really lot. And my pockets are always getting full of lint. Now where else am I going to find a gun I can field strip and wash in the kitchen sink with detergent, rinse in hot water and drain dry on a dish towel? What other gun would take the perspiration and lint that accumulates in a middle-aged fat man's pocket and function every time it is asked to? The power of a .357 with point-and-shoot simplicity, for me, just can't be beat. 5 shots is limiting, but by the time I run out of a cylinder full of ammo, any situation I can anticipate for me would be over. I really believe the only improvement I could make on my gun is to bob the hammer spur for a smoother draw. Hmmm. If I remember right, Ruger makes one like that in DAO. Have to look for one of those sometime....

Very nicely said!
Sometimes when we search, we fail to look.
Your answer was always there.

Yep, that little Ruger will outlast you and your daughter. BTW, do you get to shoot it regularly? I would hate to think you are missing out on the best part of owning a Ruger -- Shooting it Often! :D

If I could make a recommendation? Send it to the guys at Gemini Customs for the SP101 package. They work it over very nicely with a bobbed hammer, ports(if you want them), action work and even bead blast it. Great gun

I have the 2.25" bobbed hammer sp101 it is a great ccw peice for those who want a snubbie that can realistically shoot .357 mags. I also have and recommend the 3" fixed sight gp100 for belt carry or home defese.

I recently picked up one of the target grey editions and I love it. It's just getting broken in after about 300 .357's and another 200 or so .38's. It's not as portable as the Smiths, but it's a lot better firing powerhouse loads.

I agree with Ric. If that's going to be your "one and only" or close to it, you don't need to buy any other gun. If you have the money, though, instead of racking your brain trying to decide on another gun to buy (that you won't like as much anyway) why not treat yourself to an action job, hammer bob and some new "furniture"? You obviously like it the way it is but you may end up with something more perfecter! I envy you, really, with your devotion to one gun. Sometimes I think I buy more often than I shoot!

Thanks for the positive comments ...

Yes I shoot regularly. I am fortunate enough to live on 10 acres in Gun Friendly Kentucky. I shoot in my backyard and plan to take up reloading again soon. Those custom SP101 jobs are real head turners for sure. Just beautiful. Best to all.

I've never tried to pocket carry my SP.......maybe I should...I wonder if you can get a replacement bobed hammer from Ruger......they're so easy to replace I would think you could.......I think I'll check the web site.....
