I have a 12 gauge 11-87 lightweight that I bough a few years ago. I use it on everything from dove, squirrel, rabbit, duck, goose, etc. Great gun, I really like it, and it has never failed me. However, it has the J-lock and that has alway bothered me.
I was watching the J-lock removal discussion for some time, but I was not ready to order the parts and do the work, if it is not broke, do not fix it.
Fast forward. I was duck hunting before church Sunday morning (my blind is 15 minutes from my church) and my extractor decided it did not want to stay installed in the bolt anymore. Duck hunt is over, need to order some parts (i.e. extractor, etc.)
There are also some other things that I have wanted to do to the shotgun, so I order the parts at the same time that I order the extractor.
I now have an 11-87 with a Choate tactical bolt handle, oversize "tactical" safety (both of these work much better with heavy gloves on) and the safety was installed using the instructions from the J-lock thread.
This forum is great because it showed me how to improve my already good shotgun.
Although I do have to say, the "tactical" bolt handle looks funny on a high gloss blue steel and wood shotgun!
