In general both sides of that argument are correct ... if you have justification to draw you usualy have justification to fire.Well, maybe your reflexes are better than mine. Maybe you're willing to draw and wait to see if the attacker with the knife a within a few feet of you retreats or strikes. If I am fearful enough to draw in the first place, that means danger is imminent. I'm not willing to give the attacker a second chance. Dangerous? For who? Hesitation to employ lethal force against lethal force is the dangerous doctrine IMO.
That said, if the BG has quick reflexes you may end up shooting him in the back as he flees and thus lose your claim of self defense.
so be careful (as for me, two guys with a knife in my garage I'm "frontsight...press...repeat" 'til slidelock)
