Well, maybe your reflexes are better than mine. Maybe you're willing to draw and wait to see if the attacker with the knife a within a few feet of you retreats or strikes. If I am fearful enough to draw in the first place, that means danger is imminent. I'm not willing to give the attacker a second chance. Dangerous? For who? Hesitation to employ lethal force against lethal force is the dangerous doctrine IMO.
In general both sides of that argument are correct ... if you have justification to draw you usualy have justification to fire.

That said, if the BG has quick reflexes you may end up shooting him in the back as he flees and thus lose your claim of self defense.

so be careful (as for me, two guys with a knife in my garage I'm "frontsight...press...repeat" 'til slidelock)

Or, if the BG has quick reflexes you may end up with a knife in your chest, but you can still shoot him before you bleed out.

should have, would have, could have... the entire post, points out, that NOTHING, is etched in concrete, except to be aware of your surroundings, options are a good thing.... don't let them confuse you, and.... use them wisely. all recorded pass data, all personal opinions, mean ZERO, when your the one, and this is happening to you....then it's a matter of your choices, your actions and your responsibilities....and hopefully, you can bring your experience back, to re-live, and defend....for the many wise warriors of the forum.
