I left shotgun news open at the kids table at Barns and Noble

I walked away from my copy of shotgun news, which I was reading at the kids table while the son and gramma were shopping for a book she wanted to get him. Seeing kids' eyes pop open at the page for J&G sales is what we call priceless. I didn't feel like retrieving it for fear of the yuppie moms though.

Does B&N have a policy against ccw?

do you look to see if they have a no weapons sign at the entrance?
If they don't, you're fine.

There's not a "no weapons" sign, but man the clientele in there (I hate to judge by appearance but it must be done) is so "yuppy mom/marxist college student". Geoff, I'll give you credit for daring to open carry in there. I feel like I'm in the most lefty part of Seattle whenever I walk in B&N. The only reason I darkened their door was gramma wanted to buy grandson a book for his b-day.

So we're afraid of bookstores now? Barnes & Noble is one of my favorite places. I can enjoy a cup of coffee while reading my latest purchase or a magazine, service is very good and there are lots of wonderful books, like the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, a number of books by Massad Ayoob and more.

Never had anyone there comment when I bought a few gun magazines and if they did, I would simply tell them I like guns and reading about them.

And where are you from?

Those signs aren't legally binding where I'm from.

Ya know, you anonymous guys posting "laws" aren't doing anyone any good and are sowing confusion.
Please add your location (state, at least) to your info so folks have a better idea what you're talking about.

Nalioth, we're from the same place. I can tell you the Barnes & Noble near me does not have any signs about carrying weapons, let alone one with the language required by Section 30.06(c)(3)(a) of the Texas Penal Code. And those are the only signs with any legal standing.

Pardon the pun but it sounds to me like you are judging the book from the cover. Personally, I see no reason to go around looking for imagined grievances when there are plenty of real affronts to go around. Stop and smell the coffee and pick up a good firearms-related book or magazine to read. Last I checked, Barnes&Noble has a very good selection of them.
And welcome to The High Road!

Swampwolf I enjoyed the pun. I just try to pay attention to the culture in the places I go. The law isn't the issue at all in this case.

The ranching store I frequent would be pretty welcoming to open carry, but this particular barnes and noble, in the snooty shopping center it's in, seemed like 47 hysterical calls to 911 if I open carried.

. . . and 47 opportunities to educate.

its pretty tough to educate people when they're fleeing in terror

I have never, not once, seen someone "fleeing in terror" from me while open carrying, nor have I ever heard of such a thing happening to anyone relating their experiences while open carrying. It just doesn't happen.

Those few times when someone does call the police with a "man with a gun" complaint, they ignorantly think someone is breaking the law; they aren't genuinely terrified.

This thread made me chuckle. yesterday I....

Drove the minivan to B&N
Bought a book on Socialism
Typed a college term paper on my Macintosh laptop
Was dressed very much like an urban yuppie
Ordered a 4 shot Espresso Americano and Cranberry scone.

All while packing my SW 4566.

Barnes and Noble is great. I love that place. Lots of gun mags and books.

Yuppies are ok, it's the hippies that make me cringe and Barnes and Noble is too 'corporate' for them.

+1 to General Geoff and Prion for making funny and valid points. Until recently Barnes&Noble was the only stores that sold Shooting Illustrated around here.

Very true.

Have you ever been to City Lights Books in San Francisco? San Francisco is liberal but City Lights Books is just plain communist.

Only BN around here are in shopping malls that are posted, and our signs do mean something. Good coffee, but I haven't been in one in a long time. Prices are WAY to high, so I buy used books at Bookman's a store heavily patronized by liberals that doesn't care if you open carry. When I asked once, they said they support the whole Bill of Rights, but that was years ago.

This one seems to be going nowhere good. I'm having a hard time understanding why some are beating up a store that does NOT post against guns. Don't we have enough problems already?
