I live in Las Vegas,NV and I've always wanted to buy a gun. I've never fired one before. Is there a place where I can try them out before deciding which gun to buy? I have my eyes set on buying an AR-15 or an M4 as my first. Also, can I buy a gun off the Classified ads? What do I need to do in order to do that? Do I need to register the gun?

Also, I'm not a U.S. citizen, but I have a green card or A-card or whatever it's called nowadays. Is this going to give me any problems?

From the ATF:

According to the ATF, you can legally purchase and own a firearm (so long as you are otherwise qualified) if you are a green card holder:

(R7) I have a "green card" and have lived in Texas for several years. Am I prohibited from purchasing firearms and ammunition from an FFL in Texas?

As long as you are not otherwise prohibited from purchasing or possessing firearms and ammunition (for example, a felon), Federal law does not prohibit you from purchasing or possessing firearms or ammunition. However, you will need to put your alien number or admission number on the Form 4473 and provide the FFL with documentation establishing you have resided in Texas for more than 90 consecutive days preceding the transaction. Moreover, you must make sure there are no State or local restrictions on such a purchase.

Just change Texas to Nevada.Same rules, wonderclam.Go get your gun.

Note Las Vegas registratation requirements:

Registration of Firearms in certain cities in Nevada(Clark County)
NRS 244.364 Limited authority to regulate firearms; restrictions concerning registration of
certain firearms in county whose population is 400,000 or more.
1. Except as otherwise provided by specific statute, the Legislature reserves for itself such rights
and powers as are necessary to regulate the transfer, sale, purchase, possession, ownership,
transportation, registration and licensing of firearms and ammunition in Nevada, and no county may
infringe upon those rights and powers. As used in this subsection, “firearm” means any weapon from
which a projectile is discharged by means of an explosive, spring, gas, air or other force.
2. A board of county commissioners may proscribe by ordinance or regulation the unsafe
discharge of firearms.
3. If a board of county commissioners in a county whose population is 400,000 or more has
required by ordinance or regulation adopted before June 13, 1989, the registration of a firearm capable
of being concealed, the board of county commissioners shall amend such an ordinance or regulation to
require:
(a) A period of at least 60 days of residency in the county before registration of such a firearm is
required.
(b) A period of at least 72 hours for the registration of a pistol by a resident of the county upon
transfer of title to the pistol to the resident by purchase, gift or any other transfer.
4. Except as otherwise provided in subsection 1, as used in this section:
(a) “Firearm” means any device designed to be used as a weapon from which a projectile may be
expelled through the barrel by the force of any explosion or other form of combustion.
(b) “Firearm capable of being concealed” includes all firearms having a barrel less than 12 inches
in length.
(c) “Pistol” means a firearm capable of being concealed that is intended to be aimed and fired with
one hand.

1) You may want to call your local office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives - Yeah, it sounds like a party, but it's really just a bureaucracy. Ask for Agent Schmuckatelli.

2) If you're actually legit, look up "guns" in your local yellow pages.

I should just apply for citizenship instead of renewing my green card every 10 years. Been a U.S. resident for over 11 years.

Do you think shooting ranges have require citizenship also?

Go to Discount Firearms or Citadel Safe and Gun and ask them. I believe you can buy guns.

Ranges don't require citizenship but they usually require membership in the NRA.

Thats 35 clams per year, wonderclam. It's well worth it and you're protecting your 2A rights. After you sign up go after that citizenship. After 40 years you're probably more of an American than many of us native born.

Just curious, you seem to be asking strange questions, in this thread you say you're 26, but in this one you say you've lived here for 40 years.

Hahaha...

Well, one of two things just happened here.

1. The OP just got busted.

or,

2. He's a vampire, and therefore capable of being in the US for 40 years, while still maintaining the age of 26.

Green card holders can legally buy and register guns. The same laws apply to you as citizens for ownership. Not sure what Nevada does for registration but call a local FFL or gun shop and find out.

Ok, ok, you got me.

My parents have been living off and on Hawaii for 40 years farming for pineapples..and they're still not citizens. I wish they were so I wouldn't have to go through the trouble of paying 500 bucks at least for citizenship.

500 bucks which could help being spent on an AR...

Thank you,kingpin.You've got good recall.
Anyway if the rest of wonderclam's story is the truth follow the instructions in post #5.
Can you imagine?I was fooled by pineapples!:(
Cheaterslick67 see post #5 for registration requirements.

+ 1 on this, and their are other places you can go look and shop.American Shooter (Arville),for example...but every place will 'check and confirm' your claim of citizenship.

Dang Kingpin, are you just always skeptical of everyone's posts, have that good of a memory, or did something just not smell right?

Either way, nice call-out!:p

Green card holders can buy firearms no problem, with proof of residency needed. As for where you can buy guns, look up some gun stores in the yellow pages (or the internet) and go visit them. Plenty in Vegas.

Don't forget the Las Vegas Gun Range on Blue Diamond Road, a bit past the Silverton on the north side of Blue Diamond, there is always The Gun Store on East Tropicana (north side of the road). Both have indoor ranges.

The Bass Pro Shop in the Silverton also has firearms for sale, and a nice display room of some older firearms.

Don't know about Machine Gun Kelly's Gun Vault, every time I went by there it was closed, or to open later, or closed for a long weekend (what a way to run a business).

There is always Cashman Center for the gun shows, check your local newspaper for dates and rates.
