I was recently considering replacing my trusty Glock 30 third generation for a newer Gen 4, or 5 model because I’m a southpaw. However, I see from Glocks website, that the Gen 4s don’t really offer anything more for a lefty, and they apparently don’t make a 5 in the 30 model. So.... I decided to keep my old 3rd generation model 30. I like the size, and fit of that particular pistol, and am not interested in 30s, or 30sf. Also, I like shooting the .45. The .45 is not better than anything else, but it’s darn fun for me to shoot personally. I enjoy shooting .45. So... I’m keeping the old Gen3 30. It’s been a great pistol, and when you find something that works, and is good for you, eh, maybe stay with it. Also, us lefties have always managed to adapt, and adjust. Now that we have so many different options out there for pistols, It’s going to be fun shopping for something new! All suggestions are welcome, and thank you in advance. Take care, and be safe all.

My Gen4 Glock 21 has the large beavertail backstrap on it. Otherwise, that wider slide did bite the web of my shooting hand. Likewise, my Gen3 17 & 19 both have Grip Force Adapters due to the slide bite problem.

A Grip Force Adaptet will fit a Gen3 G30, but I think I’d prefer a Gen4 anyway. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of Gen3 Glocks outside of CA these days.

A Glock 30 Gen 3 is my only Glock. It lead me to discover that I don't shoot Gocks well. Don't know if it's the grip, the trigger, or the combination of the two. Still, with the reliability and the combination of low weight and firepower, it fills a niche that would be difficult to replace.

I have a Gen 3 G17 made around 2000, it has a very shiny finish (forgot the name of the finish) but I love it. It has the 3rd pin above the trigger, early gen 3s and older have only 2 pins. Just a way of visually identifying differences within gen 3.

Me too!

The thing that strikes me about this pistol is how disproportionately manageable the recoil is, for its size.

It's actually shootable enough to be a range toy, with similar corollaries applied to the Glock 42!

Keep with her, sounds like you have a boringly reliable Glock and that’s a good thing! And the .45 is better than most , don’t believe that the 9mm is somehow superior all of a sudden. All of those bullet advancements also apply to your .45 and your starting at a better diameter to begin with.

I have a G30 Gen 3 in the "frying pan" finish. It's around 15 years old and runs like a sewing machine. It's more accurate than my G17. It's a keeper for sure !

I carried a Gen 2.5-3 G30 for years. Bought it when they first came out and she now resides at my desk. The first ones out were actually 2.5 because of no light rail and the addition of finger grooves but Glock then went to just call it Gen 3 and the early ones had no rail. I believe they originally came out in 97...

Another lefty here that loves the 30...well mine is the SF but pretty much the same. I am so used to using my trigger finger or middle finger to release the magazines, I don't switch the mag release on my Gen 5's. I used my 30SF to complete the 2000 round challenge over on the Pistol Forum, obviously before ammo became scarce and expensive. It fired 2000 rounds with no real cleaning and maintenance without a hitch. It is one of my favorite guns to pack while hunting or hiking. Good call keeping a great gun.

I've had a Gen 3 Glock 30 since 2006 which was made earlier that same year. There's nothing in it or on it that I don't like, and by now I know it well.
