Y'all are going to talk me into keeping my P-95 aren't you? Man, How can I convince my wife that I do not need to sell the Ruger to buy the little one? She is usually pretty good about it, but money has been so tight, I owe her first! LOL

Maybe I will just save up enough for 2. A P3AT and a P-32 for her. What do you guys think? Right now she is shooting her Heritage Arms single action .22lr/.22Mag revolver. She is getting much better too!

Mikey!

mickeydim468: If you sell or get rid of the p95, you'll regret it. Ive had mine for more than 10 years and its been extremely reliable. ( I quit counting rounds at 3k, about 8 yrs ago). The p series rugers are built like tanks and offer all around good performance. They may be bulky, but as stated before, a good holster and gun belt will more than likely allieviate your problems. How do you currently carry? IWB OWB? Are you using a gunbelt?

A P-95 has much more versatility than any of the other guns mentioned.

In my experience, it seems that whenever someone complains about a medium size gun being "too big and heavy," they're either using a crap holster and/or belt, or they aren't especially serious about concealed carry.

Given a good holster and a good belt, the P-95 carries just fine. Is it as comfortable as pocket carry? No, but the gun will do so much more than any pocket gun.

Is your life worth a little inconvenience?

P95 owner and carrier here...

Have you thought of wearing suspenders? I know they aren't cool, but if you have problems with keys/cell pulling them off, ANY gun will likely give you problems unless you get a shoulder rig. Remember even that P3AT which feels so light in the gun shop gets a fair bit heavier when loaded with ammunition. You could also carry the P95 with 10 rounds instead of the full 15. Less weight, but still more ammunition than a pocket gun.

Also, yes, a good holster is a must. I'm on my third and finally put up the cash for a Bianchi Shadow 7 for my P95. Far better than anything I tried before. My gun belt is still budget - I went to Wal Mart and picked the stiffest selections from their belt rack. Sure, they'll probably wear out much faster, but at $10-15 I can deal with that.

BS. Go through my posts and you will see I like all different makes and models of firearms. I'm a big Ruger fan BTW.
Actually I have seen you praise 1911's before. The Ruger praise did suprise me though I can understand it. I like my Ruger P-series pistol.

Good belt, check:

IWB Holster, check:

OWB Holster, check:

And be done with it.

You will be amazed the difference good carry gear makes. A good belt takes on a different meaning when carrying a firearm is involved. I would buy the thickest, baddest belt I could find retail. I end cinchin it tighter and tighter, hence stretching it out. Making for a miserable CC experience.

I'm with BluEyes. Suspenders will help you out. Buy a few that you like.

If money is tight try Goodwill, or better yet a small local thrift shop, for the suspenders. You'd also be surprised at the belts you can find in a thrift shop. Strong leather 1.5 inches thick with a good buckle and you're good to go.

All you need is money for the holster, you can always try an inexpensive solution like Uncle Mike's first.

I had a P95 and had it for a while after I got my CCW, but traded it for a Taurus 85SSUL for easier carry after I bought a P85 off a friend at work that was pristine. I could have traded the P85 I guess, but I kinda liked it better for IDPA at the time.

About the time I traded the P95 off, I bought a Kel Tec P11. The M85UL and the P11 have been my carries ever since. They pocket carry well, the P95, no way. It wasn't even THAT good IWB, though it was a bit lighter than my P85 and P90. It fit the same Milt Sparks Summer Special. I kinda like my P90 if I'm going to carry a gun that big, not for the .45ACP, but more for the much better trigger and I shoot the gun a lot better. It is a more accurate gun than either of the 9s were.

Anyway, so, I really don't miss that P95, one of the few guns I have no regrets about trading away. The P3AT would make a little flatter carry, but I really doubt I'd ever want to carry one in lieu of my P11. I have no problems carrying the P11 in a pocket and it's got a lot more power than a .380 and a lot more firepower than a single stack gun. It is also easier to shoot and more accurate than the P3AT from what I can gather, because I haven't actually shot a P3AT. But, I can group 3.5" off the bench at 25 yards with the P11 and it shoots straight to POA with my carry load, a 115 grain Hornady XTP at 1263 fps. Something reassuring about having 11 rounds of +P that are that accurate in a pocket with a spare mag on the belt. It's almost as if I'm carrying a duty weapon in my pocket. I have shot fast Sharpshooter times in IDPA with the Kel Tec just for experiment, great groups, a little slower than the P95 on sight acquisition due to the shorter sight radius. I normally shot a slow expert level with the P95 to give you an idea of how it stacked up in raw performance. Actually, I was impressed, wasn't THAT much slower in use and no less accurate. I just cannot see putting up with the size of the P95 when the little P11 is nearly as good and carries SO much easier, especially since at the time, that P95 came with 2 10 round magazines, no more firepower than my P11. Partial reason I bought the P85 from that guy is the two 15 rounders it came with. But, I never carry it, either. .

Anyway, I picked the P11. Hate to burst any bubbles about the bigger gun being so much better, but in my extensive exprience with both guns, the P95 just isn't enough quicker and no more accurate to have to put up with carrying its size. The P11 is a little gem and I'm very good with it. hell, I've put 11K +rounds through it, plenty of practice with it in the last 14 years.

Tell her, in the utmost suave and charming fashion, that you need one for concealed carry and one to leave at home for home defense. Simple as that.

Then again I don't see why a good OWB holster and a loose fitting shirt couldn't conceal it well enough.

Well, I think for the very near future, I will keep the P-95 and save for either the P-11 the PF-9 or the SR9C. And see if I like one of them better. Maybe I will see someone at the range with one of them and they will let me try one out. Who knows?

I will take your advice and research more belts and carry holsters. The one I have now is an Uncle Mike's Size 5 IWB holster. It will probably do better with a more stout belt. I will look into some suspenders to wear with the belt so it doesn't cut into my belly when sitting. I can have it a little looser that way but with thicker leather, it will still hold up my pistol. I see the logic. I will try it.

I still want one of the pocket carry .380s though. I think they are cute. LOL Sort of like my wife. Stubby, yet sleek, but with a lot of attitude, when you pull her trigger!

Weird how a gun has the allure of a woman!

So, what is the consensus then. Which little one is the most reliable and cost worthy? LCP or P3AT? I have heard from the P3AT fans more than the LCP guys, I figured it would be the other way around.

Mikey!

Mickey, it appears that you are a big man. Before you pay for a pocket .380, I strongly suggest you shoot one first. With you finger size it may or may not be something you like. I have a sense that those with big fingers may not be liking the Mini-Me guns much. Pulling the trigger on the LCP is a lot less pleasant for me than the P95.

mickey I have a P-95 and carried it for quite a long time. on my right hip in a IWB holster made by FIST holsters. verry comfertable im 5'11'' and ritght at 235lbs. its also my IDPA gun so ive run alot of lead through it. same story no FTF in over 4 to 5 thousand rds. I just recently picked up a Ruger LCR in 38 spc. a uncle mikes IWB holster and im happy. like stated there is no perfict carry gun some times i carry a darringer in 9mm depending on my dress depends on what i carry. i understand on the $$ story im in the same boat. As for a Shot gun ive got a Reminton 870 with a 18 1/2 barrel made by mosburg. in a closet i picked up the barrel for just under 100.00. just my 2c worth

If you are looking for a pocket gun I can suggest the Ruger LCP, I've put a few hundred rounds through it and it has been flawless and really accurate. It is not pleasant to shoot, but nothing that small and light is.

Some .380s I would consider: Kel-tec p3at, Taurus TCP and the nicest polymer .380 out there: the Kahr P380, I really like the sights on that thing.

I can't believe you stuff a P95 IWB, that's sounds like sharing your pants with a brick. Get a single stack 9mm and it will make a world of difference.

From your poll I choose Kel-Tec P11.

I have one, carry it IWB using the Kel-Tec belt clip and it works well for me.

Also, it is a 9mm as compared to .380 in some of your choices, holds 11 rounds, mine has been extremely reliable.

I use a wide belt and have had no falling britches problems with this set up.

Keep the P95, you have a known commodity with it, you have a reliable, sturdy gun that you're comfortable shooting, that's worth more than the latest, fancy new Uberpistol of *UNKNOWN* reliability, if this is to be a defensive gun, keep the 95, you know it works and you can trust it

What happens if you trade for another pistol, and that one turns out to be less reliable?

as far as the carry issue goes, I'd look into holsters to find something that'll help reduce the weight/signature

If I were in your position, I'd keep the 95, look into a proper holster and get more ammo, more practice/range time

Pulling the trigger on the LCP is a lot less pleasant for me than the P95.

+1, although I tried a K-T P3AT. No problem with finger fit for me, but the grip is just too small and it felt like the darn thing was going to fly out of my hand when I shot it. Accuracy was fine and I could deal with the long trigger, but it just wouldn't be my first choice, even for a CCW. If I really needed a pistol for ultimate concealment, I would be fine carrying a P3AT or LCP. But, I don't, so I am looking at a PF-9 or Taurus "slim" as a complement to my P-95.

Keep the P95
Save and pick up a KT pf9 or pf11 (whichever feels better in your hand) or whatever used quality subcompact 9mm you come across, ask your gun-shop friend to keep an eye out for something used and give you first dibs, some shops will allow a test-firing of a used gun which might be a good idea.

If you are budget-limited, buying a .380 isn't a good choice if you intend to shoot enough to attain proficiency.

If body type is making belts not work, you can play the suspender game or use some type of shoulder rig (although none of the discussed guns are really big enough that I wouldn't snicker at them in a shoulder rig ... but need trumps aesthetics). A stiffer belt (yes, real gunbelts cost a bit, and more when you're a fatty, I know) will help, as will a holster that spreads the weight out, wide-spaced belt attachments like Kholster, CTAC or CrossBreed (my choice) will help keep your pant's waist from rolling down.

A p3at/LCP/p32 size gun might work in an ankle rig, but all I know about ankle rigs is that I'm not interested.
