I have three revolvers now:
The Redhawk is a fantastic range gun. Very accurate, especially with the scope and light hand loads. VERY heavy though. I can only manage about 2 shots one-handed before my arm is ready to fall off. Two-handed, I can handle maybe a box, then my back is sore. Other than that, I just love it. I see that MSRP on new ones is $900 though. Ouch. I probably wouldn't pay that, or even anywhere close to that.
The H&R is a fun little 22 revolver, but has a tired mainspring. I need to source a replacement soon, so it is reliable again.
The SP-101 is a good size, but not all that great for target shooting. The 3" barrel, fixed sights, and somewhat heavy trigger all conspire to keep it in the nightstand and practice with it occasionally.
I also have a Para GI Expert 1911 in 45 ACP, a Bersa 380, a Hi-Power in 9mm, and a Ruger Mk. II.
I was originally considering a CZ-82 in 9 mm Makarov, but bulk ammo isn't cheap any more, so I'd have to reload for it, and I'm damned tired of chasing brass from my autos. CZ-83s are kind of expensive, not to mention big for a 380.
So here's what I'm considering:
As you can see, I'm all over the place. I can load 44 Magnum, 44 Special, 357 Magnum, 38 Special, 45 ACP, 380 ACP, and 9mm Luger. If I can get a gun in one of these calibers, it'd be cool and would keep my stocked supplies under control, but not 100% necessary.
I'm in the preliminary stages right now. I need to save at least another few hundred dollars. Just casting about, at the moment. I only have a couple hundred now that is freed up.
- Ruger Redhawk Hunter, 44 Magnum, 7.5" barrel, 2.5x Leupold Scope
- Ruger SP-101, 357 Magnum, 3" barrel
- H&R 22 Special

- Ruger Blackhawk Convertible, 45 Colt / ACP (I'm a bit concerned that this would end up being no good in 45 ACP due to the huge gap the bullet has to jump to get to the barrel.)
