Okay, guys, here are my choices
1). Stainless Steel
2). Chromelined
3). Chromoly

How do each of them do in terms of accuracy, maintenance, barrel life, what are they usually used for, etc. Please explain.

Not sure about stainless, but I can let you in on the chrome lined v. chrome moly info.

Chrome-lined: This is the way to go more than 90% of the time. Why? Because it dramatically increases barrel life and makes cleaning and maintenance that much easier.

Chrome-moly: Reduced barrel life (approximately 50%), but potentially greater accuracy. How much better is the accuracy? Not much better at all. In fact, you aren't likely to notice it unless you are shooting from a vise.

I don't know much about stainless. Perhaps it would be more desirable for certain all-weather hunting applications, and is possibly more accurate due to rigidity and barrel profile, but as I said, I'm not too sure.

1). Stainless Steel

The best combination of long accuracy life and ease of maintenance. The only way to go with a target rifle.

2). Chromelined

Very long life, but unless you are talking about an FN SPR, you sacrifice accuracy. Good choice for a spray and pray rifle.

3). Chromoly

Can be quite accurate, but when accuracy falls off, it does so quickly. Good choice for a hunting rifle.
