Well, I've been getting into knives. I don't need anything special really. If it is functional, or looks good, cheap knives are fine (thank G-d or I'd go broke).
As recently as a few months ago I only owned two, three sort of (a really cheap gunshow knife, a cheap Swiss Army Knife, and a nice Kershaw Scallion). A few months ago I started picking up new knives- a Kershaw Vapor II, a Boker Bowie knife, and a nice W.R. Case knife with several removable blades).
Today I went to Walmart and picked up four knives and a multi-tool. The hunting/woods knives (woods knives for me since I'm not a hunter) I have are too nice to risk getting beat up so I bought a nice looking, but cheap, Winchester fixed blade hunting/woods knife with a nice looking wood handle (maybe a 4-4 1/2" blade?). I also picked up a cheap Gerber LST II lockback folder (very lightweight- it might not be the best, but I like it). When I paid the sporting goods dept clerk, knowing I'm now into knives (from this purchase, a previous purchase and previous discussions) let me know about a Winchester gift pack. It was the 2003 comemorative 3 knife pack (fake stag grips, small, medium and large pocket knives). Well, when looking I noticed another gift pack I liked better. The hunting pack with a 3-3 1/2" fixed blade hunting/woods knife, a ~2 1/2-3" blade folder with dual thumbstuds and wood inserts in the handle and a wood handled multi-tool all for just $20.
So for about $50-60 I bought four knives (all of which I like) and a multi-tool. I am happy, but I get the idea that this is just a start (I need some more nice knives now, and I really need a K-bar or two).
