I'm looking for interactive online maps or map that has BLM land,, State trust land,, on it that I can click on it and get coordinates for Lat. & Lon....

From here in Arizona to target shoot ,, The area that I was using has been taken over by the State, We have a lot of BLM land here in the desert but finding it is another thing. I want and need to be very precise of the spot because of the law enforcement are ticking here and I understand the fine is pretty stiff plus you lose you gun. I hope this is the spot to post in not I apologize.
Thank you

Federal land state land

I have gotten paper maps out of the forest service and Corps of Engineers. My state game and fish has provided some too. Almost every map I find on line can be resized and moved around to show public lands.Call and talk to rural LEO'S , gun stores, etc. Dig out some info on the net.

If I understand it, I think what he wants is boundary coordinates for the "legal" ground so he can check his GPS coordinates in the field and know whether he's on "legal" land or not.

Interesting question, actually. At home (near net connections) you can throw coordinates into google maps and come up with a map centered on those coordinates. If you knew the coordinates of the boundaries of the "legal" places in the first place.

But out in the boonies, possibly away from net connections, this might not be possible, and you'd have to know those coordinates in the first place.

You'd think the local game wardens, cops, forest rangers, etc, would know the GPS boundary-coordinates of their proper jurisdictions --at least informally, and you could contact them on that, but maybe not.

You could probably also get coordinates from Geological survey topo maps, but that gets expensive.

All this if I understand his question correctly.

ETA: Playing around with the NOAA weather maps, you might be able to nail down coordinates fairly well. Here's a weather report from Briggsdale CO, up near the National Grasslands as a sample:

http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClic...ld1=40.63&textField2=-104.32&e=0#.VR1HY3mPLm4

In my mousing around and clicking on the map, I can see that coordinates come up in the legends, and various options are available. You might be able to apply this concept to your locale. Don't know, but maybe.

Clicking around on the Briggsdale map, and a little south -eastof Grover, Co, I got this out of the legend below the map:

Map LegendLat/Lon: 40.72°N 104.16°W Elevation: 4944 ft

Try it and see if it works for your problem.

Your state's department in charge of hunting regulations, usually dept of natural resources, should have all public hunting lands listed in their brochure.

From there you can go to your state's GIS system to find boundaries and coordinates. Typically these have to be converted via an online calculator from the state grid system to lat long

Thanks guys for the help I had a online map that I could click on and get the coordinates but I lost it and can't find it again.

Check out the Co-Pilot app. It allows for GPS tracking without needing a net connection or a wireless signal. I am going to AZ this weekend, and I'm planning on using it for the first time.

I'll report back if there is interest.

It's not across the street, but anywhere in the Tonto that isn't marked "no shooting" At times during the summer they close it for fire danger when it's dry. And, you must be at least 1/4 mile off the road. We always go in the desert east of Mesa on the 89 to Payson. Pretty much just pull off and find an area you like.

The one problem that's happening is that many are hauling out TVs, microwave ovens, plastic fuel tanks etc to shoot and LEAVING them there in the desert. Many pristine places out there have literally become trash dumps. If it doesn't stop it will result in an areas that's almost 1/5th of the state becoming closed to access. We always haul out more than what we take in!

This should give you what you asked for.

Download and instal Google Earth Pro, it’s free now.

First try downloading the “az_surf_mgmt” zipped shape files from the link at the bottom of the message, if that fails next line.

Download the “az_surf_mgmt” zipped shape files from: http://www.blm.gov/az/st/en/prog/maps/gis_files.html Low in the first block of data.

Unzip the shape files and insert them into Google Earth Pro, from the File menu, Insert command. This will give you the land status of any where in Arizona, almost. There are some gaps and they are not survey grade accurate, ~100 meters off in some areas

I know this is terse but GIS is part of my job and it was a slam-dunk for me so it’s hard for me to think of all my assumptions in these instructions. If you have questions, when you have questions, PM me. There are some other tips I can give you and there are also online tutorials.

If the link below works left click, mac, or right click and "save file”, Windows, from the link below for the shape files.
