I need load data for 165 grain rainier bullet in 40 S&W

My loading manual does not have 165 grain loads in it. I'm thinking 5.8 grains of Unique? Unique is the powder I'm using. Rainier states to load their bullets with lead data, I previously loaded some 180 grain lead bullets with 5.5grains of Unique, good load. 5.8 grains on a 165 sounds about right?

I just bought a bunch of the 165 Hps from Rainier and was looking around for info also. I think you are right in the ballpark with your starting charge. Alliants web site list 6.7 grains as max for the 170 grainer at just over 1000 FPS. That is of course a Jacketed bullet. My Lyman Manual lists a 175 grain lead bullet at 5.8 grains max and you bullet is of course lighter. Again I think you load is in the ballpark and I also think that it will be safe. The interesting thing here is that the Lyman Manual lists 6.1 grains as the max for the 170JHP. They may be a little on the conservative side.

FWIW . . . I just checked my manuals and can't find a 165gr cast bullet anywhere. The Hornady manual lists a 165 TMJ with Unique:

5.4 starting, 6.0 max

Lyman lists a 175 grain cast bullet with Unique:

4.8 starting, 5.8 max

Sounds to me like you're in the ballpark.
