I am going to purchase a 9mm semi-auto soon. I have handled (not shot)
  • Beretta px4
  • h&k p7
  • s&w 59xx series
  • cz 75
  • Magnum Research Baby Eagle
  • Sig p220 (Gander Mountain - import)
  • Glock

The Beretta, S&W, and h&k fit my hand the best.

My research indicates good and bad points about each, and I can only have one...:banghead:

I would love to have the p7, but given that it is out of production, and a somewhat older gun, I am concerned about possible repair/parts replacement issues, should the need arise

The Beretta feels excellent as well

I have read STRONGLY POSITIVE reviews of the CZ, and it is likely the least expensive (new) gun in the mix, but it doesn't feel as good in my hand...can replacement grips fix this?

Thanks for your input!

You'll probably get this recommendation from others here, but you might want to find a range that rents some of the models and try them out. Buy the one that puts the biggest grin on your face. :D

The CZ is a good choice, but like Cougfan2 said, try some at a range.

I don't know for sure, but I bet one could find grips for the CZ. Its a popular gun.

You can never, ever go wrong with a Glock. However, if I was going to buy something else it would probably be a CZ75 SA. I also have a soft spot for the S&W 9mm's. I would also recommend you find a rental range and see which one has the best giggle factor for you.

+1 on finding a range that rents guns take it from me. I went through two different guns until I found two that work for me. I have a CZ PCR and a Glock 26 that work well for me but everyone is different.

Do a search on CZ grips. I have seen some nice looking wood ones on this site.

Don't quote me on this, but if you've handled a full-size steel Baby Eagle, then the CZ75 will probably feel pretty similar. I had a BEagle and really liked it.

What will your gun's purpose be? Planning on concealing it, or just for the range, or both?

I'm no Glock thumper by any means, but I do own a Glock 19. It's a nice gun; I really love mine. I also like how well it conceals on my body...may not work for yours, but for mine it does. :)

I've heard lots of good stuff about the S&W 59xx series, and I'd love to have one! I just think they're sweet lookin.

No experience with the Beretta PX4, but I have a 96FS. Beretta makes good stuff and it should not let you down.

Have fun looking- that's the BEST part! Deciding.....SUCKS, lol. :D

Edit: Oh yeah, I don't know what Gander's charging for their CPO Sigs, but the Gander Mtn up the street for me charges 5 arms, 3 legs, AND a minimum of 2 children, with at least one being the 1st born, for all of their guns. Point being, they're expensive. I've heard they will price match, but not positive. Just make sure you look around and look online...even paying an FFL fee/shipping might be cheaper.

The gun will be for the range initially. (part of the reason for this gun is cost of ammo; I have other calibers that are getting expensive to shoot) Eventually, it could become a CCW, assuming I follow through with the licensure process. This is also a part of why I am buying a semi-auto.
King Air Driver; I am in Wichita- the GM price for the SIG was $449.00 IIRC. Seemed like an ok price for the guns (they had two), but the two guns, frankly, looked kind of rough around the edges. One even had the rear portion of the hammer broken? off... The S&W felt great, like I said. But I have read so much about the pedestrian (for lack of a better term) nature of s&w guns I have sort of shied away from the brand, but they felt great- A word about why the feel of the gun is important to me; I have shot the 1911 platform in 45 and gotten quite a bit of hammer bite, so a larger frame makes a difference to me.

I read alot of good reviews on the CZ`s but after I bought one of them I really grew to dislike it. Mine jammed a few times at a match I had only owned it about two weeks but I had put around 400 rounds thru it. My CZ 75 B wasn`t nearly as accurate as the reviews stated either.
I really like the Sigs and of course the Glocks are always a good choice.
Really its like the other guy says. If you could find someone with a few of them at your local range and fire off a few rounds it could help you form an opinion based on your own experience.

Your first post basically gave it away: you are most interested in the Beretta and S&W. Get some range time with each, then decide on which you want.
