Just a thought on gun safes in the basement- The basement will be flooded in the event of a fire. The last house fire we fought had about four feet of water in the basement by the time we had the fire completely out. This probably won't be a lot worse than the 300 deg. steam that will fill your safe during the fire, but still something to think about. Of course if it's on a floor above a basement, it will probably fall in anyway.
