I posted a poll in another thread about me buying a new pistol soon. My choices were the HK USP40, Beretta 96 and the Sig 220. The Sig ran away with the honors, but I feel that caliber (the Beretta and the HK were .40 S&W) played a major roll in the results. What I really wanted to find out was which of these brands is the prefered in this forum. So, I want to try another poll more specifically oriented towards quality of brand.

Quality is the objective of this poll.

Thanks for your help in helping me deside which way to go.

I voted Beretta (I own a 96fs and a Mod 21), but as far as quality, fit and finish, functionality, etc...all 3 of these are excellent manufacturers. You can't really go wrong with any of them.

I would try to get a hold of them and shoot them to see which one you like the best.

I don't like the polymer framed guns, glocks and HKs both. To me, they just 'move' around during recoil far too much for my taste. I like a hefty firearm in my hand. Hence the Beretta. That said, I have shot a HK USP Compact (and several glocks), and it's a great gun...other than the whole moving around like a puppy on a leash thing...

I've never shot a Sig, but I would love to get a 220 sometime...their ergo is great, and everyone I've talked to that owns Sigs love them!

I voted Sig. Nothing against Beretta they are great guns, I have a 92FS that has been 100% since day 1.

But the Sig's I own and the others I have fired have a feel of Quality to them and mine have lived up to that. I think you'll find the 220 points really well.

Just my opinion as always YMMV.

SIG-SAUER or SIGARMS

Only downside is the standard blue finished weapons;
but properly taken care of, even they are marvelous.
"Ask the expert"? I know, cuz I have two of the West
German classic P-series (P220 & P228) that are blued,
and they are beautiful!:D :uhoh:

I had to vote for SIG again. I love my Beretta 92fs but I hear the newer models are cutting costs and using plastic parts. The SIG 220 I had was the finest production semi-auto I have ever owned. The bbl to slide fit was perfect and the machining seemed flawless. It showed how well it was made by delivering outstanding accuracy also.

I wish SIGs fit my hands better because I could be happy with the quality of SIGs for the rest of my life. My Beretta 92fs is no slouch in the quality dept but nothing really compares to the extra work and talent that goes into making a SIG. Beretta is a close second place in my book so if it fits your hand better, go with that and be happy. I think H&K and Glock are made much cheaper than SIG or Beretta and they still charge as much for one of them as a SIG or Beretta.

I compared a new Ruger P-95 with a H&K compact and thought that the Ruger actually felt like it was made a little better. The H&K trigger and levers are plastic and flex when you use them, it leaves you feeling like it is going to break if you put too much pressure on them and it just feels super cheap. Glocks are made cheap on purpose and they look it when you field strip them. The plastic frame "rails" covered by little pieces of sheet metal are a joke and I am not surprised that Glock had a major recall on them. Four little sheet metal tabs act as you frame "rails". Glocks should sell for about 1/2-2/3 of what a SIG or Beretta sells for but they don't.

My Beretta 9mm Centurion is a fantastic gun that is put together like a fine Swiss watch. I don't have one other gun that feels and sounds as smooth when I rack the slide. Having said that though, I picked up a new Inox 92 at the local dealer and the trigger was atrocious, nothing like mine. I also don't like the substitution of plastic parts that is taking place with newer Berettas. I also have a Sig 229 in .40 that just wreaks of quality. So if I were going to get a new gun today my vote would be for the Sig. I have shot a couple of HK's and didn't like them but you might feel differently about them. Best, Mike

SIGs are the most reliable handguns I have ever owned or shot. They are accurate, robust and just plain work.

Of all the handguns I have shot the SIGs are the most consistent and take top honors for me.

Chris

That 220 idea was a stellar idea by the way. hint hint.

I've not seen a bad "P Series" SIG. Not saying they don't exist, but haven't seen one myself. If i were parting with my hard earned cash and was worried in the least about quality, mine would say SIG P something-or-other on the slide. YMMV

Sheslinger wanted me to add that I should know since I own........

P220ST
P239TT
P225 West German
P245
P229TT

All have been nothing short of spectacular. The P225 trigger is not the best but that is my only complaint.

Chris

Sheslinger has also informed me that the P239 is actually her's now. :uhoh:

Voted HK because of very limited experinece with Sigs. Berettas are my choice gun but as far as fit and finish, the American ones aren't AS nice as they could be.

FWIW & IMHO, all three of the choices are at or near the top of the quality food chain. I doubt you could go far wrong with any of them. I mean it's not like the choices are Sig, Star, Llama and Kel-Tec.

I voted Sig because every one I've ever handled has been high quality and functionally flawless. I really don't believe you could find a better "production" handgun. My opinion is heavily influenced by the fact that pretty much any Sig I pick up seems to put a bullet right where I intended. I think they actually make me a better shooter.

Qualifying Statement: I have the exact opposite of my Sig experience with HK's--I can't ever seem to but the bullet where I want. I know it's me, not the gun. All the rumors, innuendos and owner reports I've heard seem to indicate HK builds a top quality product.

Sig...once again!

Mainly I shoot .45's....I have limited Beretta experience cause I did not the feel of their .45. The HK USP are quite functional and high quality, but they did not impressed me with 'feel'. I have heard that HK's customer service can be...challenging.
The Sig is a time honored design......been around the block several times and many elite, professional folks carry them. The 220 and the 245 are both EXCELLANT handguns, as was the 225 and 226 I shot years gone buy.
So, for my taste...of the choices presented....Sig wins!!

SIG and H&K are at a similar quality level, to determine which weapon is right for you, pick your favorite SIG, and your favorite H&K, and compare them side-by-side, with particular interest in pointability, and ease of use of controls.
On my SIGs and my H&K USP compact .45, I can manipulate all the controls without changing my grip.
I do like the mag release and safety on the H&K, but I like the decocker on my SIG classic 228.
I dislike the mag release on my SIGpro, it requires too little effort to eject mags.
More than once it has ejected mags when under my pillow at night.
I despised every second of ownership of my 229, make sure you handle the weapon before you buy.

I'm another member that heavily leans towards SIG pistols. Its difficult to find fault in the quality of their guns and they are one of the most consistent in putting out good products. Notice all the buzz it causes when there are rumours SIG might be producing a 1911 pattern pistol.

SIG quality has never disappointed me while the other two I found things I didn't like about them. That doesn't mean SIG is necessarily the right choice for everyone nor is any single brand. This poll is gonna help you decide but you should also consider personal factors like how it fits your hand, placement of controls, and simply the way it shoots for you. All 3 companies make solid handguns.

Quality-wise, I'd rank HK's and Sigs tied for first, then Beretta next.

Manual of arms, definitely HK first, Beretta next, Sig third

I suggest you take all three to tha range, and try them out before picking one. That way you don't confuse yourself with the opinions of others.

What you feel is the best for you is what counts.

All three are quality guns, I wouldn't feel undergunned with any one of them. ;)

The HK is a top quality weapon, and so is the Sig.

The question becomes one of: What works best for YOU ?

I own an HK USP45, I looked at the Sig P220 when I was making my selection. The HK fit MY hand better than the Sig. So that is where I went with my $$$. If the Sig had felt better in my hand than the HK, my decision would have gone that way.

There are about the same number/styles of holsters available for both, and factory mags are usually easy to find, both have top notch customer service reputations.....

With either one, you can't lose.

I voted SIG as having the best quality (by a hair) but the SIGs aren't my first choice. I prefer the Berettas. The SIGs have a ridiculously heavy trigger and I'm not a fan of their unique sights. I had an HK USP years ago and won't consider another one except perhaps the P2000.

I voted HK because they have just worked best for me. I own Berettas but prefer the Italian models & I've only had one SIG that just didn't work out.
