When Browning brought out their scaled down .380 and .22 caliber 1911 blowback pistols, I loved the idea of a 1911 sized to these lower powered rounds. Having been recently feeding my S&W revolver and CZ habit, I haven’t bumped into one of these in .22 yet.

Well no more, I found a compact .22 version on consignment at a LGS that looks like the previous buyer wiped it down once and never fired it.

On inspection I saw zero wear on the magazine, slide, barrel or frame, no powder residue in the chamber or magwell and absolutely zero oil on any sliding surface. I couldn’t say no, so I didn’t. :)

I picked it up this morning after the mandated 10-day wait. During that time I picked up two additional magazines off of eBay, which arrived on Thursday. (I always grab at least two extras when I bring home autos, you never know when a mag may take a dive.)

It takes down just like a miniature 1911, which is pretty cool. Sights are correspondingly small, I guess if they were regular sized they wouldn’t fit on this slide. That may be an issue shooting indoors.

When all was done I oiled what needed to be oiled, put it back together and am now waiting for a chance to go shoot.

I like the feel of a regular 1911, this smaller one has that similar comfy fit. Being roughly 85% the size of a 1911 my trigger finger can reach clean through the trigger guard. I think it will take a little bit of range time to figure out exactly how I will grip it to avoid hammer bite, etc.

When I get to the range I will post how it shoots.

Does anyone else have a 1911-22? If so, what do you think of them, both goods and bads?

Stay safe.

Nice pick up!

It will fit your hand just like a regular 1911 fits mine. :)

Looking forward to a range report.

Looks like a Glock Killer to me!!!

Nice find! I didn't know they made that is a compact 22 version. Will be interested in the range report.

I currently have 2 full size 1911/22s. I've had others plus a few conversions. The common theme with all the full size examples I've had is once you find ammo they like, keep them clean and run them wet. Never had a compact version in 22 so it will be interesting to see how yours functions.

GSG 1911/22 mags have worked in all the conversions I have used - Nelson, Ciener and Marvel.
I've tried Ciener, Kimber and GSG mags with my Ciener/RIA setup so far. The aluminum Ciener mag's spring is weakening and I need to find a new one. The plastic Kimber is OK but like the Ciener it doesn't lock the slide back. The cast ZAMAK GSG mag would be awesome except mine won't feed reliably unless I download by two rounds.

Nice acquisition, Riomouse!
I had a CZ24 and a 1908 Colt many years ago, and did carry them back then. (Couldn't afford a .380 Govt. back then) I have held these in shops and been interested, but I'd probably buy a 9mm Commander first, TBH. That's just me, though.

My SA Ronin 9mm and Ruger .45 SR-1911 Commanders are both great shooting, fun pistols. I went that route, too and got them a while back. You can’t go wrong with getting a Commander sized 1911, IMHO.

This one was just a “stumble on” while perusing the consignment stuff. I saw it and it filled a gun niche that was empty. :D

i want one of those brownings in .380. might buy one this week.

i have a "walther-colt" 1911-22 it's lots of fun to shoot. does best with cci 36 or 40.

Umarex making tons of .22 for other manufacturers. Don’t they make BB guns?
They make tons of stuff. From bb/pellet to airsoft to powder-operated firearms. They bought up GSG, they collected up a couple of other small European makers, too.

They make a "pistol' version of the MP-40 (no shoulder stock) in 9x19, along with a laundry list of 22lr versions of various handguns.

I think the “ black label medallion” model looks super cool. I have always liked Browning’s medallion-level models, the metal polish and wood quality Browning uses for these guns is usually awesome.

Their .22 LR Stg44 is my favorite. I haven's shot it, but I handled one at an LGS and it looks impressive!

I never payed much attention to them. My oldest grandson's father-in-law has the 380 version and I thought it was nice but didn't realise they were a blow back design. I doubt that bothers him as he is a rather large individual.
The .380 is not blowback. It's a tilting barrel more like a High Power than a 1911, but a locked breech nonetheless.
