I got that new baker hammered sxs for the price I wanted today, overall looks good, trigger guard has model 1896. it needs some tlc here and there but looks in good firing condition. Hammers and triggers work good, firing pins are good not peened or nothing.hammers rebound like normal, has floating pins there nice and free.

top leaver is tight and all lock up right with no wiggle, the bores look great no pitting, not dents, the twist looks good no bad spots I can see.

looks like it could have a small crack in the wood behind the action, feels a little loose so I'll have to address that.

one strange thing is, a 12ga chambers tight more on where the rim sits could just be the shell I have, but the bore at the muzzle measure about .685 for both that seems very tight almost like a xfull for Turkey choke.

Like I said the gun needs a few things but for $100 I can't go wrong.

You got a great deal on a shotgun made by a company known for its quality doubles. Baker and L.C. Smith are the only makes to ever have made American-made doubles with side-lock actions (yours, of course, isn't given its early date of manufacture).

Ya it looks well maid, the triggers and hammers are beefy.

I know these aren't worth to much, $100 I felt safe paying I figured if there was something wrong it would make a nice wall hanger. I like using these old shotguns, I never got much into the newer gun but I always like sxs and really like exposed hammers.

Cool old gun. There is a web site for Baker guns at Bakercollectors.com with a lot of historical info and details on the guns. Buddy of mine has an old "Batavia Leader" sxs . Always thought they were cool, as they were made in Batavia NY, not too far west of me. IIRC the factory closed about 1930 or so.

Ya I think crescent acquired the in the 30s. It looks like baker changed the guns every year, not to much info on this one but should be a nice gun once I did the small things that need to be addressed.
