But there it was, hidden in the back-a bull-barrel Ruger Mk. I .22 with target grips and sights, and reasonably priced. So of course I put a down payment on it.

Now the hard part: Mk I, Mk II, Mk III- what's the difference, and what kind of quirks and personality traits can I expect from this gun? and how do I go about determining date from the serial number?

I know the MK III has the loaded chamber indicator that supposedly is capable of firing a chambered round if something hard whacks the indicator. Now that seems really safe, doesn't it? :scrutiny:

I think the big difference between the Mark I and the Mark II was a change in the hammer and the addition of a bolt hold open mechanism, but don't quote me on that.

Mark i 9 rounds
No bolt hold open
Differance in the reciever at bolt the scallops are deeper on a mark II to provide better purchase when pulling bolt back...

Thats it

What tc300mag1 wanted to say is the Mark I uses a completely different magazine than the Mark II and Mark III pistols which also differ from one another.
Mark I magazines are still available from Ruger if you can't find them locally.
