Just one more of the disposable rifles. First the Remington 710, 770, Mossberg ATR, Savage Axis, Ruger American, and now the Remington 783.
I really don't blame Remington, Savage, Ruger or any other manufacturers. They are making what the majority of the buying public wants. They have to stay in business and not enough people are buying their better guns to stay profitable.

Well, it appears there won't be a .243 anytime soon so scratch that.
They are being initially offered in .270, .30/06 7mm Rem Mag & .308 so there is always a possibility of future plans.

If they build it in .308 it's only a matter of time before the .243 comes out. I would give it a try then.

Prediction. This is the future replacement for the 700 wich IMO is no longer a competitive design from an engineering or cost standpoint. I'm sure Remington has figured put they can fire some more people if they replaced the 700 with something more CNC friendly
ETA looks like a ripoff of marlins ripoff of the savage. RIGHT DOWN TO THE BBL NUT!

I was hoping that they were going to bring back the 788. They weren't pretty, but they sure could shoot.
Maybe they'll offer the 783 in some unique calibers. For example, 30 Remington would be something different.

There used to be two Remingtons. The Remington responsible for 40x's and 3200's and grade 1100's and 700's. The other Remington churned out Nylon 66's,788's and most recently their iteration of the 1911. Sad that all thats left is the latter Remington.

looks like a marlin xs7/xl7. they're probably hoping the remington name will help sales. i'm sure it's just more freedom group junk.

I imagine they are happy to have something bolt action to promote to put distance between their marketing and any AR clone.

Sorry, but most people can't justify dropping a thousand bucks on a bolt gun they might shoot once or twice a year. Heck, I can't justify dropping a thousand bucks on a bolt gun I'd shoot every weekend.
FWIW, I'm really liking the Savage Axis. One of the few left handed actions on a bolt rifle in my price range.

The current 700 line up is more than capable as a good looking accurate rifle. If Remington would slash the bloated and convoluted choices then concentrate on fixing QC issues they'd be fine.
Sadly every subpar semi-auto in current production has been snapped up in the recent panic and I suspect that some manufacturers will see that as a signal of success rather than an opportunity to divest themselves of dead weight.

The Remington press release said the 783 rifle was designed to fit a price point between the 770 and the 700 SPS. Doesn't the 700 ADL fill this role already? Or they could have rebranded the Marlin X7 as a Remington. The only reason I can think of is that the ADL and X7 are fixed magazine and the buyers must really want detachable magazine rifles.

Yet another boring cheap disposable rifle with a weatherproof durable stock (cheaper than checkered walnut), matte non reflective tactical metal finish (cheaper than well polished bluing) and lightweight composite trim (cheap plastic v/s metal) We are being told this crap is what we want and the manufacturers are saving a ton of money by not building it right. You dont have to spend a grand on a bolt rifle to have a well made, durable and attractive rifle.

You can buy a new Rem 700 ADL at Wal Mart for 400 to 450. I hope Remington does not quit selling the ADL's to the big box stores. That is probably the better gun.
I've always had these "cheap guns" and they have served me well. I've killed more deer than most men twice my age with my cheap guns. if it'll do what you want it to do, then it's the perfect gun for you!
BUT....
I just picked up a used browning a-bolt stainless steel for $475 off of a guy (might have been $485). Went out and sighted it in with my cheapo walmart scope and wow... now I'm a convert! I'm not a great shooter, at least I don't think of myself as one but the groups i got sighting this in were well under an inch at 100 yards. I hesitate to call them half inch groups, but they were darn close!
so... consider that you can get a high quality used gun for only a little bit more money... I never really cared much about how tight of a group I could get, but maybe that's because I never got really tight groups with any of my cheap guns ;-)
anyhow, don't be too discouraged, if you like that gun for whatever reason then get it, I'm sure it'll shoot a deer! But now I'm of the mind that I would rather buy a used high quality gun for just a little more.

About 1958 Nicholas L. Brewer invented the Savage 110 with it's Barrel locking nut. For 40 years gun writers and other vermin bad mouth it as ugly. Most used more colorful language than decorum allows me to repeating....
It was the 110 that saved Savage being shuttered in the 1990s. Love them or hate them they are tack drivers.

Looks like my XL7 but with a box magazine and a dumb 770 syled trigger guard. I"m not sure where they are going with this.... They should drop the 770 and replace it with this. I had a 710/770. Great guns, accuracy wise. The plastic actions just are horrible. This would put them in a league with savage and marlin and mossberg.
