So I'm waiting in line for Academy to open, got my 22lr then head off to the gun counter. There just off the truck was a Ruger GP 100, 4 inch barrel, houge grips, adjustible rear sight with a white oulined sight blade and its black. I had been hasseling the guys at the gun counter about not getting revolvers and low and behold they got one.

I just picked one up yesterday myself on a trade for my XD subcompact. Rolled off the line in August according to the paperwork.

Thanks, I got them off of ebay from this vendor from Thailand ( jaruwan.p ). It takes about 2-3 weeks to get them, excellent quality, fit and price, it was worth the wait to get them IMO. They are different than the usual grips you see from the major vendors.I like the finger groove grips myself. He has them on ebay but his stock changes from week to week so you need to keep checking till you find a set you like. Here is the link and vendor that sells them.

I have never shot a GP. I am afraid to. I have a feeling I would have to have one. I remember holding a GP with the smaller grip with wooden inserts a few years back and I remember it felt awesome. After all this time I still regret letting it go and not buying it.

Those grips sure look nice. I think I need to add those to mine.

To actually shoot the gun, I think you would appreciate the Hogue Tamer. Sadly, they don't seem to offer it for the S&W 629, .44 Magnum or for the Redhawks.

The rubber grip fallacy is alive and well. Fit is what matters. A rubber grip that does not fit your hand well is not as comfortable as a wood grip that does.

Craig, your an evil man.

I wouldn't have agreed with what you just posted until recently. I just handled a beautiful Stainless 686 4" with the most beautiful wood finger groove grips on it from the factory and it fit my hand perfectly.

I haven't been able to get it out of my mind since. I now know that episode is going to cost me another $700 dollars.

Yea, I agree with you completely and I haven't even bought it yet. I will have to remedy that in short order. You understand, Just to validate the theory, of course. I'm such a liar, but don't tell anyone.

Been there, done that.
I'm the owner of a blue 3" fixed sighted GP100.

It's funny, but I prefer service-size magna-type grips. I usually take off larger target or combat grips and replace them with standard, small, wooden grips. I fire .357 and I just prefer them that way. I am looking for some to go on my Trooper Mk V at the present. Steel back straps and wood shoot just fine for me.

Snake

Another fan of your GP-100 grips. Never could warm up to the rubber/wood ones that came with the gun from the factory.

grip fit is much more important than material. i found the hogue grips that come standard on the gp100s to not be very comfortable at all. i switched to the compact lett grips (smaller rubber with wood insert), and found them to easily allow me to shoot even buffalo bores 180gr loads with no problem.

those wooden grips look real nice. i'll take note of the seller in case i ever et another gp.

But did you shoot it? I like nice wood grips too and have more than one. But I am not creating safe queens that look good in pictures, the handgun version of hot rodding. Hogue Tamer grips fit my hand really well. Some just cannot allow that our mileage may vary.

No, everybody has to find what works for them. I just take issue with the implication that the only good grips for shooting are made of rubber from folks who use condescending terms like "pretty" or "safe queen" to describe anything else.

More comfortable than any rubber grip could ever hope to be.
