I think Covid has changed my range trips

Last Spring I had a few weeks of reduced work hours while work figured out how to adapt to Covid related guidance /rules/etc. The local range I belong to is more shotgun sports oriented, but they do have a a single bench for 100yd shooting, as well as a 25yd pistol/rimfire rifle set. The range suspended the shotgun sports for a bit, but the rifle and pistol range were open for use. Some days saw heavy use, while other days were quieter.

For myself, I took opportunity to go to some close by family land and focus on .22LR. Over the years I had accumulated quite a bit of .22 ammo, with a wide variety of manufacturers, bullet weight, bullet design, and velocities. Two of the .22 rifles had new scopes but hadn't really been put through their paces, while some other ones hadn't been shot much in awhile. So I gathered various boxes of ammo and shooting supplies and had several sessions of rimfire shooting. It reaffirmed what we all know--.22LR rifles are finicky creatures and each one has its own preference for ammo. Results for bullet weight, velocity, and manufacturer across 5 different rifles were recorded. It was fun and informative.

As summer came I focused on 45/70 loads for the Browning 1885, as well as shooting various traditional muzzleloaders. Both of those are enjoyable, and are inherently slower to shoot. Rediscovering a slower, more focused approach to shooting has been rewarding on several levels.
