I took my new M44 Mosin Nagant to the range of Friday so heres the Range Report with some pictures.

I went out to the range with about 250 rounds planning to shoot it at 50 and 100 yards and try to figure out which of my spare bolts had the best headspacing. Well I ran out of time to shoot at 100 yards but I did shoot about 125 rounds from 50 yards. I found out that with Brown Bear 185grain FMJ in shoots low so I adjusted accordingly until I was hitting close the bullseye, it also shoots low with Silver Bear Match Ammo 203grain SP but it shoots much tighter. I eventully figured out which of my spare bolts has the best headspacing but I ran out of time to shoot it with good bolt or from anywhere farther 50 yards. I did not give the rifle time to cool other then the occasional trip down range to but up some more targets and to reload. I dd not shoot the targets in numerical order

Heres the pictures

Thanks for posting the pics, nice rifle. I would also try some Wolf gold and some Privi Partizan 180gr. loads. You have many good choices to try, then you can make the best choice for your rifle.

You said M44, right? Did you fire it with the bayonet in or out? My groups with my M44 are literally half the size when the bayonet is extended. You may get some funny looks at the range, but swing that baby out and see how your rifle groups then. I'd lay money on it that it will shoot better.

Yea it was a M44 with the bayonet out. It seems to shoot better with the heavier bullets so I think that the 180 grain might be too light.

357fan what is your average group size ?

I hope to go back out to the range this week to try for some better groups from 50 and 100 yards

My M44 with the Bulgarian Heavy Ball shoots dead on at 50 yards. Groups run 2". That would make it a 4 MOA gun. I figure that is about right and completely acceptable to me. Yours looks like it about the same judging from the 12,13 and 14 targets.
