I've been playing around with a $139 91/30 the last few weekends. I learned quite a bit about it. But it was time for a change.......

Today, I broke out a M39 that I bought at the same time but haven't shot much. Boy, this is a fine shooting rifle. No comparison with the 91/30. I shot Top Left first and after getting a feel for the sights Top Right. Bottom Left are 3 Reloads of 150 gr. .311 SP's over 50 grs. of IMR 3750. I got some Winchester 7.62x54R Boxer Brass from Gunbroker and a set of Lee Dies. Never used Lee Dies before...interesting design compared to RCBS. I finished Bottom Right. To me this is very impressive because I don't have great sight anymore and the Iron Sights are medicore at best. The front sight blade is wider that the 5" orange target at 50 yards.

All these shots other than the Reloads are the Silver Bear Ammo. Me and Brown Bear don't get along. Brown Bear = HIGH & LEFT with the 91/30. I had TWO FTF's with it today with the M39 using BB. The M39 fired the Silver Bear perfectly and I checked the firing pin with the Gage and it's in range. I think the remaining Brown Bear is going into the "For Martian Attack Only" Ammo Can.

Strange........the bolt in the Finn Sako works stiffer than the 91/30 and...........even though it's shorter...I like the "feel" and "balance" of the 91/30 a bit more.

I got a set of MOJO's for it.......I know it's a nice rifle as is but MOJO's are great sights.

Congrats on a fine rifle, M39's are great. They are on my short list of rilfe to 'buy on sight". My newest (and best shooting) toy is an Ishapore .308. That rifle is a tack driver even with silver bear.

MissouriCrowinMass,
Welcome to THR! :)

I used to own a M39, but sold it to a guy that I work with...that still owns it. It's a shooter! 1 1/4" groups at 100 yards with S&B 180gr. ammo.

Good hunting, Bowhunter57
