I turned an anti co-worker into a shooter and soon to be gun owner. Never thought it could be done, but it can.
I've been working with this guy for about two years. He's pretty liberal, has never hunted or shot guns. He's into things like animal rights and computers. You know the type. Nice guy, but we don't talk politics too much, let's put it that way. The few times we did talk about gun ownership, he was very much an anti and pretty much thought the 2nd amendment was outdated and useless in today's world.
Well, after the Katrina debacle, he knew I was a gun owner and started talking to me about self-defense out of the blue. He could see the potential for possibly something happening where he would need to protect himself and suddenly realized maybe I wasn't just a crazy gun nut after all. He kept wanting me to take him shooting. I finally agreed once work slowed down enough to allow and I knew he was serious.
We spent a good 3 hour lunch at the range yesterday, and he shot pretty well. I went over all the safety rules, started him off on a .22 Ruger Mk 1 and moved up from there. He shot the Kahr PM9, the Kel-Tec 3AT, the Springfield 1911, and a Beretta 92FS. He is now HOOKED, and will be buying a Beretta 92FS or possibly a Sig or H&K of some type this weekend.
One less anti in the world, millions more to go.
