I want a .22 rifle real bad.

With your budget I'd go with the Savage Mark II or Marlin. If you want to be different, go with the Savage. At $200, you're looking at just about the least expensive model of whatever you choose.

How good are the CZ .22 rifles? I have never even seen one. One guy told me they were great guns.

It's been like three days since you decided you wanted a .22lr...and you still haven't bought one...what the h3!! is wrong with you?

No kidding...no wonder the economy is in the shape it is, geeez...

I already made my CZ recommendation in this thread... a 28" barrelled 452 Lux. They rule the low-buck (i.e. not anschutz) stock .22 matches I've seen.

I bought a 10-22 about 5 years ago for $160 out the door. I've done nothing else to it and from a bench I get 10 shot groups the size of a dime at 50 yards. You don't need to spend all of the extra money on all that other crap. Spend the extra money on ammo.

Buy a cheap used Marlin 60 (< $100 ) (they're plentiful and as you read really great guns!) then you'll have something you won't worry about dinging, scratching or sharing with anyone and everyone. Then take your time and pick exactly the .22 rifle you want new. The Marlin will satisfy the whole instant gratification thing.. plus be worth keeping long term. My 2 cents.

I had a thread on here about my $75 used Marlin. I'm not a good shot, but we got it sighted in with a cheapo scope and wow it was accurate. My favorite, and cheapest gun I own.

I know what you mean. One of my favorite rifles to shoot is my $50 Stevens 62. :D

Hmmmm so the $100 is maybe a little high for a used Marlin 60 in really good (almost new) condition?
I don't think that it's too high. I'd pay it, grab some ammo and go out shooting. Really...and here's why:

I was out shooting a .22 today for the first time since last fall (it was a rough winter here). I had a great time. When I bought it (this one happens to be a pistol) I might have found a lower price elsewhere (but quite possibly not). From the perspective of today, I simply don't care about that. I had a wonderful time knocking wood blocks off from a target table that I'd made out of scrap lumber last year. :)

Is a hundred bucks fair, if it's in good shape and you like it? Yes. More than that? Your budget will tell you whether you can afford it or not (I'm 49, and I'm still frugal). It's hard to go wrong with any of the .22s that have stood the test of time.

"My dad has a Marlin, and I can't think of a single occasion it has jammed. The only 10-22 I have had any experience with has jammed on numerous occasions." I have only ever seen a 10/22 jam for one single reason... this is a very simple reason and can easily be avoided by anyone who values their firearms... are you ready? 3 words CHEAP @$$ AMMO!!!!!!!!!!!

Walmart special bulk 1000 round loose ammo boxes for 20 bucks just don't cut it...

that is a vote for the 10/22 by the way...

I'm glad I saw a few good things said about the Mossberg Plinkster. Dicks still had a couple marked for Black Friday when I walked into the store in late December, so I picked up an early Christmas gift for my son... about 3 years early. For only $99, I figure it can sit in my gun cabinet while he grows into it. :)

I like cheap Wally ammo, and my 10/22 does too. :neener: I love the 550rnd Federal HPs, they are about as cheap as it comes, my rifles (and pistol) eats it up, and it's fairly clean. I think the only better .22lr is CCI (especially stinger and velocitor) and Eley target; and I am unsure of both because I son't shoot enough of either to tell the difference. My 10/22 has swallowed at least 20k rounds of the fed bulk packs. :D

So it's not the cheap ammo. :D

that is cool.. I was simply saying that is the only "legitimate" complaint I have ever heard about them, mine has fed whatever I put through it. I prefer to plink with remington thunderbolts and actually shoot cci stingers. mini-mags shoot well also...

my frustration comes from people complaining when a gun jams or misfires cheap ammo... (however rare it may be in a 10/22)

I have plenty of ammo ;) I also have a few .22's. In fact I mentioned on another thread that I have a Western Auto Revelation from Id say the 70's that is essentially a Marlin 60.

I too am frugal at age 42 LOL. I usually get good deals from my buddies shop. Ive bought several guns from him so he deals with me. He has $110 on the tag and I handled the gun today then called him later and he said $100 out the door for me. It has 2 very small nicks in the stock and a very tiny spot where rust is on the barrel (Id say its a 1/4 inch square) and a slight scratch on the barrel.
Each of these imperfections is hardly noticeable and the gun is clean looking and probably not that old.

Yeah, I think Ill buy it. Tomorrow maybe even but certainly by the weekend.
