A milion years ago ; I had an old S&W 1917 in .45ACP...damn ;I wish I still had it.Back in the ; I ha dseen some S&W K frames sold to the Israelis in 9mm;someone here ( or another board) told me they were known as th S&W547...sort of a Model 10 HB in 9mm;kind of cool if you aske me.

rcmodel,
It wouldn't be easy but I believe if there were a real market for it nothng is impossible. Maybe high ammo prices would generate said market. As far as the
.357" bore shooting .355" 9mm bullets.
I did that 50 times today with my Blackhawk. I can not brag about marksmanship or repeatability as I was shooting off hand free standing at ranges from 15 to 90 ft. At 15 ft I was holding 2" ...and 30 yards .. well I was still hitting a paper plate.... most of the time.

I admit no manufacturer is likely to tool up for that option.

I have a 940 cylinder that was fitted to my 642, make it a 942, and the cylinder fits my 60-4. It makes for a great carry gun in the 642 and a real nice range/woodswalking gun in the 60-4.

Accuracy in Blackhawk Convertible

+1 on it being "good enough" accuracy when shooting 9mm in the Blackhawk.

I haven't slugged my bore, but there appears to be enough rifling in there for the .356 cast bullet I use to get them spinning. I don't do any target shooting with mine, but I can get "minute of tin can" accuracy and be satisfied. When I shoot paper targets at 25 yards, no keyholing, so it suits me.

Wife & I each have a 940, and find them surprisingly efficient with the short barrel. Last year I chrono'ed the 940's with fmj 115gr, and +P+ 115 (9BPLE) and +P 124 GR (Speer). Also chrono'ed our 640's in 357 with 38+p 158 LSWCHP, 38 +P 125 JHP, 357 125 GR (Fed LE) and 357 158 JHP.

I was surprised to see the 9mm 115 std load faster than the 38+P 125, and the 9mm +P right on the heels of the 357's. Don't have the numbers right at hand, but that's the gist of it as I recall, with the differences a lot less than expected. Hope to find time to do a more organized comparison later this year.

357's were faster than the 9mm, but not by as much as one might expect. Didn't have any Gold Dot short barrel ammo on hand, and it no doubt would be a better performer in the snubs.

Like the 45ACP wheelguns, the 9mm moonclips were a quick reload. And like the 45 moonclips, reloads are not as easy to carry as speed strips, but no worse than speedloaders, IMO.

One big advantage for the 9mm is muzzle blast and flash are less than the 357 loads in the snub, and even less obnoxious than the 38+P's.

One thing I have noticed with my Blackhawk (from my backyard seat of the pants laboratory/range) is the 115gr 9mm load is not exacty what I would call recoil free. It's not nasty by any means just more than I expected when comparing it to my poly bottom feeder with the same round.

Just an observation.. not worth much.

I've posted this before, but there was a test in The American Rifleman 10 or 15 years ago comparing .38Sp, .357Mag and 9x19 in 2"/2.5" barrels. The 9x19 gave most of the performance of the Mag with most of the handling advantages of the .38.

When comparing to autoloaders, remember that the cylinder isn't measured as "barrel" in the revolver but the chamber is in a semiautomatic. A 2" J frame is closer to 4" (approximating, too lazy to stand up and get a ruler!).

Look pal simple enough, get an 357 and put reduced loads in it. Revolver bulllits don't have a "feed" issue so they can be made to expand sooner. They can produce the same stats in reduced loads, they don't have the weird crap related to it as a semi auto projectile in a revolver has. For gosh sakes man, get a grip!!!
Somebody please slap some sense into this guy!!!!

Why, I wish that S&W and other makers would get some sense and start making a few good 9mm and 40 revolvers.
A 3" model 10 or 13 with the intermediate barrel weight that they made for the 10-5 and -7 models would be great as a backup for a 9mm Semi.

Me too. I want to get a 9mm revolver eventually, but if no one is making new ones, then it looks like I will have to pay out the nose when I do have the free cash to buy one.

I, too, wish S&W would resurrect the 547. It is a truly fine revolver. While on wish lists, how about the 940 (or 942) with a 547 type cylinder to eliminate the moon clips.

I like my 9mm Speed Sixes, but they are a bit too heavy.

I can remember distributors blowing out S&W M547 revolvers for very low prices, because nobody wanted them. I wanted to get a couple, but was beyond broke at the time. We can't expect too many manufacturers to purposely hurt their financial bottom line to make 9mm revolvers that will not sell in sufficient quantities of offset production costs. For the small number of true believers, the custom route does exist. I say all of this as someone who likes the idea of 9mm revolvers.
