Currently my Remington 700 Youth rifle 20 inch barrel using Walmart purchased Winchester Power Point 243 100 gr SP grouped an astounding 3/4 inch group at 100 yds. I have no complains whatsoever but looking at the new Hornady Superformance line, it say s of 100-200 ft increase in performance. With the current Winchester ammo im using its probably around 2800 plus or minus ft per sec in velocity which is not bad.

Anyhow im just excited to try the Superformance label, hopefully it will group well . I called Hornady and they said since i have a 20 inch barrel, i could be losing around 40 ft per sec with my current ammo. ( 40 ft times 4 inches of barrel equals to 160 ft loss ).

Winchester power point 100 gr SP velocity is 2960 ft sec at the muzzle using 24 inch barrel. 2960 ft minus 160 ft = 2800 ft

Sometimes guns don't get a full burn on those loads and they heat up your barrel faster.
I don't really like em too much, too expensive in my opinioin, and really over talked.

+1

I would stick with these for deer.

I want a .243 for my next rifle, but I have heard the barrel life is under 2000 rounds, and .223 is alot cheaper to load for.

dont know about barrel life, but i would agree about loading costs.

223 brass is abundant at most ranges too.

I shot a box of the superformance through my .243 when I bought it and they were very accurate. I have not used them for hunting though. I did use the 150 SST superformance rounds on 2 deer this year in my .308 and they did great on deer. Although, most any .308 round would do just as well as the Hornady did.

I was a fan of the SST's for many years and still use them in a few of my loads. I lean more now towards the interlocs and the Interbonds now.

As far as the new superformance line. Just seems to be a little too much hype for my taste. But I reload and haven't bought a factory round in a lot of years other than some cheapo rem or hornady stuff for the brass.
