Today I was shooting my new M70 Featherweight in .270 Winchester. I would shoot about 5 shots and let the barrel cool down almost to ambient during all shooting.

I first shot a box cheap Remington Core-Lokt and every thing seemed fine.
I shot about 5 rounds to get zero'd.

With my 1.5 - 5 power scope I shot a 5 round group of 1 3/4". Then shot a few 100 & 200 yard gongs standing and kneeling with the rest of the ammo. Missed one time at 200.

Then I tried a box of Hornady Superformance 140 grain SST... I was using this last as I wanted to zero to it. 5 shots went about 8 3/4" (no typo, Eight and 3/4). Hard for me to imagine a group that big is even possible. I saved the rest of the box in case I can return it to Hornady.

It could be the scope I suppose (all looks normal and the mounts and rings are tight) but shooting was fine then went south the instant I went to Superformance so I figured I would ask if anyone else has had any issues with it.

Hmmm, sounds familiar. I actually went to the range this past Saturday to sight in my 25-06. I was shooting 100 grain core-lokt, 115 gr Silvertips, and 117 gr Sst superformance. I shot the superformance last. Shooting off of bags 3 shots were strung out horizontally about 6-7 inches. Not much vertical difference. I thought it may have been my scope or that I was pulling when I shot. Now, not so sure. Will be interesting to see if anyone else has experienced anything similar.

I've tried it in 308 and 30-06. Both were pretty close to advertised velocities. I was 30-40 fps slower than on the box, which would be about right from my 22" barrels vs the 24" test barrels.

Accuracy in my 308's was acceptable for hunting ammo. Around 1.5" groups. The 30-06 ammo was not as good. 2"-3" groups were the norm. I did get a letter advising me that the particular lot of 30-06 ammo I had was being recalled. I still have a box and a half, but have not contacted Hornady yet.

I never believe the hype when I read about a new ammo, high velocity don't always equal accuracy. I will say some of the Hornady Vmax bullets are performing great with my hand loads.

I have also been mildly disappointed with this ammunition's accuracy.

Out of my NULA 22" bbl. at 100 yds from a rest it does 2" to 3" 6 shot groups. This rifle shoots just about every other thing Ive tried in it into less than an inch.

My 7mm08 Hates it, with 3" or larger groups at 100 yds. With the old "Light Magnum" ammo it would group sub moa @ 100 yds and about 1.5" @ 200 yds. I wish Hornady wouldn't have messed with it.
It ought to be called "Su-poor-formance"

I tried some Hornady .30-30 from 3 different rifles. Accuracy was horrible. At first I thought my scope went bad, but I tried 2 more rifles and all shot poorly.

Follow up here. I took the rifle out again today with more Remington ammo and it shot fine.... so back to Hornady goes the Superformance.
