Has anyone here used an IAI 777 1911 Commander size? Is it made in Israel? Are they any good? Do they have a lot of cast or mim parts? Whats a good price on a used one?

THANKS:confused:

assuming the IAI this referrs to is the one that is a trade name of firearms international of Houston Tx.

if you can get one to look at closely, you might want to see if the frames still have "made in the phillipines" stamped on them (usually someplace where it won't be all that noticable till you look CLOSE).....

have seen 4 of them that did, had a local shop that was carrying them for about 6 months stop carrying them b/c quite frankly they didn't sell well and according to the shop owner those that DID sell were prone to problems.

had one of these next to a similarly "equipped" Charles Daly one time, and with the exception of the IAI specific roll mark on the slide and one small "iai" stamp, the guns were twins, same cheesy finish, same blocky soemwhat sharpedged slide and frame, and even the rest of the markings were the same.

i don't know WHAT the deal is with these, i've heard rumors of all sorts to explain why guns with the IAI name, which to most semi-knowlegeable americans = of Isreali origin, can wind up with "made in the philipines" on them. but i won't speculate just report what i've seen.
