I have a military Mauser 98, large ring which was originally chambered for 8mm (7.92). It did not have a crest on the receiver from any nation and the only marking is a stylized dagger (?) and caliber marking on the left side of the receiver ring then the serial # on left side of receiver. I will try to attach a photo of the markings. Any information as to the country of origin would be appreciated. I bought it already "sporterized" and the style and sling swivel locations make me think it is Spanish.

Unless this is a game, you're going to have to give us more information. I can't figure it out from what you posted and I'm pretty good with identifying Mausers.

I'm gonna go with a sporterized 8mm that was re-arsenaled or professionally
refinished in Puerto Rico ( hence the boxed P & R ) and previously owned by the band Megadeath.:uhoh:

DB there is a Spanish Air Force model 43 short rifle with those exact markings on page 305 of "Mauser Military Rifles of the World" 3rd Edition by Robert W. Ball.

Thanks to those who gave advice on what kind of Mauser action I have. I know it is a 98 large ring. I have had it re-barrelled ( to 7x57) and the gunsmith said there was no set back in the receiver. It is a good shooter, I just was curious as I had not seen any mausers with those markings. Thanks to Navyretired for his info. I will have to get a copy of that book on Mauser Military Rifles.
