OK I have to ask... what do you see as cheap in the ruger American rifle? I was under the impression it is designed by the same guy as the savage axis... I thought is was basically the same thing. I was thinking of one as a budget 350 bushmaster deer gun... I know it os not as refined as a high end boltgun but what do you perceive as garbage? or a [problem?
I hate to answer for anyone, but here’s my take.
The first time I handled one my thought was “the name is an insult to America.” The newer ones are a little nicer though. It’s a cheap rifle that they spent the effort to make shoot very well and spent nothing on making it pretty.
In my case, if I want something functional I want an AR. If I want something nice, it’s a quality bolt gun that’s pretty and shoots good. I was kinda taken back that they name something “American” that’s so cheaply built. But they seem to be hands down the best low end rifle made. Exceeding accuracy of many “nice” rifles.
I’m not knocking people that own them, I fully understand buying one on a budget or for a beater and that some people don’t care that the bolt feels like perfectly machined ice gliding across precision steel. I’ve seen the videos of what they are cabable of and I can respect that. One of the best days of hunting ive ever had was one day when I didn’t have a gun on me and I bummed my brother’s Remington 770. I shot 5 pigs fooling around with that gritty bolt abomination of a rifle even using the $25 scope that came with it.

I seem to recall OP has a single shot HR 12 gage. Saw a video on YouTube today about a 9mm insert that looked like just the thing for OP. I'm sure you can get one in 38 special.

Gratuitous pic of a 100 yard group from a ruger American 7.62x39.. 20 rounds of cheap monarch.

Edit to add... this thing is loud as hell.

I would say a savage 93 in either 22 mag or 17 hmr... I have one in 22 mag.. good shooter with 40 gr cci hollow points... it’s not bad on the ears

In regards to justifying a 44, I'm trying to not add another caliber to the heard. I already have several 38/357 handguns and a rifle would fit in nicely.

As for the Ruger American, I handled one in the shop a few days ago. A ranch Model in x39. The stock seemed like the cheapest part. Sharp edges all over. But then it started to grow on me, and I thought about how nice it would be to have a suppressor.

Now my mind is going towards thinning the heard a little to fund the gun, suppressor, and a decent scope. It would fulfill all my needs with the exception of being a little long with the suppressor and no real conducive to strapping to my tractor fender. Other than that, I'm really leaning towards it.

That would be a nice little setup. While your waiting for the suppressor paperwork try a krink brake on it. Really cuts the blast.
