I was just looking in the www.gunsnstuff.net catalog, and they have a kit with barrel that converts a Long Action Mauser 98 into a .45 ACP carbine with 16 inch barrel and uses 1911 magazines... I guess a bolt action .45 ACP is something different. Anyone have it?! :D

I saw an article about doing (and shooting) this conversion in Rifle back in the mid-80s. It looked fun, but . . . what's the point? When I saw the gunsnstuff catalog, I thought the same thing.

Do we really need a point to have as many guns as we can have. It's all fun!

But true, I can't imagine anyone actually owning this because what would be the point other than plinking on an indoor range that doesn't allow rifle calibers, but practicing working the bolt, hey, that sounds like something for me! :D

And yes I know its not a Mauser. But same concept with 1911 magazines.

I don't know why but I really like the idea of that Valkyrie! I bet it is a lot more that it should be though.

Check over at falfiles.com. Guy named Rhineland sells the set-up and does conversions. Pretty neat job, esp. if you are thinking about suppressors down stream...

got the kit, and a rifle to convert just haven't had time to do the work. Everything looks well made, should be a fun, overgrown .22 rifle when finished.

No, it's a replica of a DeLisle Carbine, a suppressed .45ACP Enfield used by British commandos during WWII. I've seen a Valkyrie one in a gun shop and wasn't too impressed, though.

I've heard of one gunsmith that took a Mauser action and made a fitting so that it would hold 1911 barrels. He wouldnt use a barrel in a build if it didnt hold under so many inches at some distance.

Hatcher's Notebook lists a 45ACP 1903. Not sure what it was intended for. I have to wait for my copy to show up... bought it on Ebay as I was reading the Library copy.
