Mission impossible folks. Maybe. I received a text from a friend with these two pictures attached. She asked me if I recognized these markings. I asked her to get me more information and I'll do some research but nothing yet. I know it's a long shot with so little information but it couldn't hurt to try. Clues anybody?

i think the pic of the reciever top is of a T-38 6.5 japanese rifle and the three intertwained circles is from the tokeo arsnel. eastbank.

Thanks guys. I didn't think I would get any replies with the minimal information I was able to provide. I'll email her your comments and that link.

Great info guys and I appreciate it. I told her to do a search on that rifle to verify.

the markings on the top of the receiver are the chrysanthemum which was the symbol of the emperor of Japan followed by the markings below that , 3, 10, 8, type(translates to type 38) which is the model number. on the side the 4 interlocked circles is a symbol that denoted the arsenal where it was built. in this case it was either made in the Kokura Arsenal or Koishikawa Arsenal as both shared that mark. there is one marking that we are missing which should be located near the serial number which denotes the series and would allow us to make an estimate of what year it was made. without a full length picture we cant make any guess as to the originality, condition, or value of that rifle.

Condition is neglected.
Status is incomplete. The action is out of the stock and the barrel partly unscrewed.
Too bad, such nice crisp markings.

Yea Jim, you're right. This is one from a fairly large batch of old firearms inherited by a friend, I haven't seen the firearms in person but I have some pictures. Unfortunately, most of them look like they are needing some help. I was hoping to get better pictures to gather info on them one by one but that hasn't happened. I'm impressed by the response on this one. The folks here sure know their stuff.
