Funny you should bring this up today, I just finished modifying my California Comp Works holders to what I think is IDPA-spec. Of course, the Blade-Tech cariers I actually use when I carry my revolver are too "un-tactical" for Bill Wilson, but that's a whole other story :banghead: I removed enough material from the plastic center section that the loaded clip sits lower, and the top of the plastic core protrudes through the top. This makes it just like the holder in the rulebook, whick I believe comes from TK's.

I've been told that if it's not in Bill Wilson's catalog it's illegal for IDPA?

The left one is a soon to be illegal CCW holder, the middle one is a modified holder that will be legal and the right one is a 7 shot moonclip holder that will be legal.

The only other moon-clip holders that are legal for IDPA, that I can find are the leather one made by DelFatti. Those hold one moonclip and are about $35 each.

seems to me it is just Bill Wilson's way of outlawing moon clip guns. And seven shot guns and what every else he doesn't find tactical enough. :banghead:

GMP: Glock Match Pistol: for Glock 34 only, limited to 10+1 rounds of custom-loaded .380 in a 9X19 case.
RCP: Real Carry Pistol: for single-stack, 1911-pattern pistols only, minimum MSRP of $1200, limited to 8+1 rounds of premium JHP.
ORG: Old Round Gun: for .38/.357Mag revolvers only, preferably loaded from cartridge loops, speedloaders allowed but must be carried in the bottom of a knapsack full of dirty laundry. Bonus points for using ammo that has turned green.
That should cover just about everybody right? Except those un-tactical morons that shoot other guns...

I get a real kick out of how IDPA shooters claim they are "street combat purists" and then accuse the USPSA crowd of being "gamesmen." 
Both sports are games and the sooner everyone realizes it the more civil we will probably be to each other

I'm planning to get into IDPA soon, but I fully understand that, when you introduce rules, you are no longer dealing realistically with street fight reality. I do, however, hope to govern my own IDPA approach, by using a true carry gun, rig, and ammunition, so that my experience will at least have some relevance to my real world carry/self-defense plan. Though this game is not really to be construed as training, I don't see any virtue in carefully skating the edge of the game's legality to cook up some unlikely pistol/rig/cartridge platform that you would never really carry, for the mere sake of winning a game. At the same time, the rules are ridiculouly prohibitive of legitimate carry gear, in some areas - It's retarded that a single action pistol can't be used in SSP. It's downright suspicious that "ghost ring" type sights are not allowed. No bull barrels, but Accu-Rails are just fine? And what's this about angled mag pouches more than 10 degrees from vertical not being allowed? Oh well, I guess I'll have to play as much of my game as their rules allow. I was looking at the IDPA schedule on a local club's site, and found the nearest upcoming event is a Glock shoot, that welcomes other pistols as well.

Moonclips are not terribly popular outside of the shooting sports and there are very few holders designed for them.
For what it is worth, Bill Wilson wanted 7 & 8 shot revos pretty badly. It took a lot of effort from the revo shooters to get the six shot maximum back. It is not very "street", but from a competitive standpoint it stopped an inevitible equipment race whereby all the revolver shooters spurn their 625's in a rush to get $1000.00 627's in order to remain competitive. It was highly ironic to be sure, but in the long run it would have been ugly.
And to Krag, most if not all IDPA people talk about USPSA the way you are describing them. There are people on both sports who have their own petty bigotries, but neither group is the majority of the shooters. Most IDPA shooters are just like any other group of shooters. They love to shoot and shooting in general.
We don't all make generalizations about USPSA that way, you should not make generalizations about IDPA shooters either.

Ted - sorry you took offense at my statement but it is based upon personal experience with IDPA shooters and matches in my area.

Easiest way to make Calif Comp works legal
Add a piece of 1/4" OD clear vinyl tubing to the center hole of the holder. It makes a pin, pushes in easily, is very inexpensive, and does not hurt an already good design.
Cutting the center post as shown makes the metal expand too much and makes the holders not as effective as they were designed to be.
