A couple months ago I went to a local none sanctioned idpa shoot that 2 guys run ( my first one ), they travel and shoot sanctioned matches so this is like practice to them.

anyways i did better than one of the guys that travels to shoot at idpa matches and was wondering if there are payouts at sanctioned matches? Was just curious as it might tempt me to travel a bit farther.:scrutiny:

might be a dumb question but i really have never done any competition shooting that was sanctioned.

At IDPA, the rules don't allow for performance based prizes.

In USPSA, they do, and the payout structure is entirely at the discretion of the match director.

A sanctioned IDPA match may have some prizes awarded by random draw. Nothing on score.

A sanctioned USPSA match may have cash payouts or merchandise prizes based on match placement. As ny says, the exact method of making awards is up to the match director. It might be strictly by overall place, it might be by Division or Class.

Already planning on winning, are you?

lol winning what, seems as there is nothing to win.

no i was just curious mostly. im sure last time it was beginners luck.

thanks guys

Winning ... the match. I.e. the point of the exercise is to excel at the sport you're participating in.

If you're looking to "win" money, try the stock market. Or a casino.

People of all skill levels travel to sanctioned matches, so just the fact that they shoot bigger matches doesn't really speak to their abilities. If you know their classifications ("marksman", "sharpshooter", "expert", etc) that is a better, but still very imperfect indication of how good a shooter they are. Classifications are likely listed in the match results.

^^^This is true, I'm classified MM and have shot several sanctioned matches. Not going to do any this year as they are too expensive and there are a bunch of local IDPA, USPSA and steel matches. I need and want trigger time not a T-Shirt.
