Thinking about switching jobs and the new one isnt so sure about the 1911.
I am waiting to get approval but I may need to switch platforms
I currently carry a Kimber Pro CDP with extra short trigger Alumagrips thin grips and a xtra high grip safety, I have small hands and the fit for me is perfect.

My options are the normal glock S&W etc either 9mm or 40 cal I prefer to go with the 40 if I have to switch. Whats available that might fit my hands and replace my 1911. Thanks

I would suggest a CZ75, chambered in 40. You could try the glock 22, but to me (this is just my opinion) the glocks feel like gripping a 2x4.

The Sig mentioned is a fine piece. I would also consider a SA XD in 40.

Did/Will they mention why it was a no go in the 1911?

the XD has the same grip angle as the 1911 and its grip is modeled after a 1911 with an arched msh. my XD9 and my SA 1911 both feel pretty good and i've got smallish hands also. I would say glock but i hate the finger grooves.

Sig 229 in .40.......and for your pleasure you can pick up a .357 barrel!

KRAG 60% of PD use Glock doesn't mean anything except the people buying are cheap. Their not buying because its the best weapon for their officers but because its the cheapest. The don't give a dam about the officer on the street only bottom line.

Mike - we have a local PD that has an "officer's choice" policy for sidearms. They can carry any pistol they want (9mm, .357 SIG, .40, 10mm .45, .45 GAP). A good friend of mine is their firearms training officer and he says that approximately 85% have chosen the Glock.

BTW, the department will issue a Beretta 96 to any officer who does not want to use a privately owned handgun.

Our local sheriff's deptment allows members of the SWAT team to carry any handgun they want. ALL of them decided to stick with the issue pistol - a Glock 21.

I know it's only a small sampling but what can I say?

There stated reason as they wanted to only handle 2 calibers as they supply ammo, And not specific but the perceived safety of SA :banghead: Said I would have to demonstrate safe use of a 1911, Been so long since useing any other auto loader thats what would be unsafe to me. If all they can come up with against the 1911 is the ammo I can try hitting them with a 9mm 1911.

Second the S.A. XD. You can go with 9mm, 40, or 45 gap. The grip angle is the same as others have said. You also have a grip safety like your 1911.

Just and idea.

mattw, the USP Compact doesn't really have a double-stack mag. The cartridges in the lower part of the mag are staggered, then the mag narrows at the top. It is not as thin as a 1911, but I don't think of it as being particularly thick.

One of the Para-Ordnance LDA guns might fit the bill. Same ergonomics as the 1911, one of the best DA triggers, and they come in .40, I think.

Alright, after the 1911 perhaps the 2011? :D

I'll definitely go for the CZ-PO1,
then HK USP,
then the Cz-75B. :)

If they're just stuck on the ammo, then go for a 9mm 1911 or a Hi-Power.

If they come back with asking for double action, I would go with a Para Ordnance LDA. Here it is (if the link works)

Para also offers an LEO purchase program. If you're at all interested, be sure to go to the Law Enforcement section of their web site.

You people crack me up.

Guy A: Don't buy a Glock, Glocks suck! Buy a Sig!

Guy B: Sigs are over-priced crap! Buy a CZ!

Guy C: They won't let you carry a 1911?!?! The sky is falling!

It's a freakin gun, people. Glocks are like Volvos...boxy but safe. (stole that from a guy on lightfighter.)

Sigs are good pistols. So are CZs and HKs and Berettas and Springfields and Kimbers and Colts.

Rem 700 - No one here is going to be able to tell you what fits your hand. You are going to have to figure that out for yourself.

I carry TWO Glocks AND a Colt. Ymmv.

Dang it...forgot to add my own personal bias: ParaOrd LDAs are horse????.

Sheep

Sheep dog you are absolutely right no one here can tell me about the fit for my hand. But they can tell what might come closest to fitting like a 1911 the best gun built in the last 100yrs and still going strong. Ever wonder why when somesone wants to make a point about a pistols good points they compare it to a 1911. The sky isnt falling but if you couldnt have a Glock what would you go with.
