Driving cars is expensive, drinking is expensive, and yeah shooting is expensive but its never really been a issue in my decision to do it. This is my opinion and mine alone so dont bounce on my head, but the hole SHTF thing i think people think about to much. Personally i would love to see this country go back to 1776 in it common sense and practical views. But i dont really think that we need to loose sleep over it happening till it happens. Be prepared have a couple guns that your proficient with, and live your life and enjoy it the best you can. To many people lose to much sleep at nite over this subject to which they really have no say so or way to stop or start it if they wanted to. Of course someday itll happen, happens eventually in every nation but it could be 100 yrs or 200 yrs from now. Some i spose would define my ammo as hoarding i dont call it that i call it having enough for several years so i dont have to look for it when its impossible to find (but not neccessarily out of production). I have no problem with people doing that, but i despise people that thrive on others fear and buy guns, ammo or primers and put it on gunbroker or a table at a gunshow at a 200 percent markup.

I'm not getting on in years as you ask specifically, but I've been giving this one a lot of thought the last few years as I have some health issues. The conclusion I've come up with is that I'm the guy you leave to defend the retreat of the others IF the SHTF.

I am torn actually though. On the one hand TEOTWAWKI has been predicted since I was old enough to be politically aware. First it was Russians in the cold war. Then it was UN via their black helicopters with the help of the one worlders. Now it's Obama gonna run the world into the out house. Well, it's too soon to tell about Obama, but no one else has been able to kill civilization.

On the other hand I'd bet that pre WWII Germans would have never believed their country would go the route it did. And, history does have that annoying repeat function so the older I get the more convinced I am that it could happen. Simply because no one believes it will so they make the same mistakes that caused it the other times.

So, my solution has been to thin down to common military calibers and preferably stuff that shoots common military calibers out of common military magazines. I've been thinning the fun stuff to do it. Right now I'm working on NATO stuff, next I'll go the Easter Block stuff.

Then when I die of my health issues and not some EOTWAWKI fantasy scenario my wife can cash in that particular set of assets. I would hope she'd keep enough for herself, but knowing her she's going for the bucks.

I actually had a plan for when the Russians launched a nuclear strike against us. It was to drive to the Pentagon and have lunch at the Ground Zero cafe.
