If you could make all the gun laws...

Here's the problem with requiring a permit to own a gun, people forget that you don't need a license to own a car or to drive one, as long as you're on private land. Heck, you could drive 200 mph without a license while intoxicated, as long as you're on your own private land and don't run anyone over. All the licensing/regulations on driving only apply on public roads. This is similar to requiring a permit to carry concealed in public.

I have no problem with permits for concealed carry; my CCP is, after all, what sets me apart from Mr. Gangbanger. I don't have a problem with the NFA of 1934, although I do think that law from 1986 that restricts automatics that civilians can own to those produced before 1986 should be done away with. But, CCPs and the NFA are about the only gun control laws that I agree with.

edit; another way of looking at it is that anything the government has access to, should also be available to a private citizen. The very definition of tyranny is that which is legal for the government but illegal for the citizenry.

Yep, because those laws stop the criminals from carrying concealed or obtaining fully automatic weapons.

If you have permits, regulations, laws, bans, it only effects the law abiding people. Remember that.

So, you can't go out and buy a brand new MP5, but Mr. rich drug dealer who has a friend with a smuggling boat just got 20 of them brand new. That's fair.

You shouldn't be restricted on what kind of "arms" you are allowed. It is your god-given right to own whatever means of protection you desire.

Concealed Carry permits are nothing more than another Tax... The second amendment should be your "permit".

Bad Guy 1: I think I'm going to murder some people. (Tucks pistol in pants waist)
Bad Guy 2: But Earl, you don't have a permit for that....
Bad Guy 1: Oh shucks, you're right, I guess I can't kill anyone tonight. (Puts pistol back)

The only people who should have restrirctions are people who have been convicted of violent crimes. People who obey the law and haven't been convicted of violent felonies should not have laws imposed on them concerning guns, or any other weapons for that matter. I have no use for a machine gun, but I am a law abiding citizen and should be able to own one if I so choose.

I disagree; but allow me to explain. I'm sure others have already said this, but if someone is so dangerous to the point where we say we need background checks so as to prevent them from legally buying a gun - because we feel that for sure, they're going to hurt/kill someone with it - then what in the world are they doing out on the street in the first place?! Someone who is THAT dangerous should never have been released back into society. They should be permanently removed - whether that means life in prison (no parole) or execution, they just need to be "removed."

What I meant by the CCP setting me apart from Mr. Gangbanger is that's the difference between us if a cop was to search both of us, for whatever reason.

A cop must presume the innocence of everyone, not just people who have government permission slips. Carrying a firearm without a permit or license is a victimless crime. I can't endorse punishing a victimless act.
