Of the firearms I currently own, this is a pretty easy choice. The M1A is coming with me. I love that rifle. And like most here, I consider a .22 rifle to be pretty useful, almost necessary. My 10/22 is set up perfectly for my needs and does anything I'll ever ask of a rimfire rifle.
Alternatively, if I can choose from firearms I don't currently own, the M1A is still coming with me, but I might opt for an LMT piston gun in 5.56, and if it isn't considered cheating, a .22 rimfire upper for it.
Like others, I could use my 870 or my Glock as my primary defensive arm, but would rather have a good carbine. Currently, this role is filled by my AK. If I have to give that up to keep the .22, I'd like to have something to replace it with. An good AR-15 stoked with 60 gr TAP, and a .22 conversion kit allows me to accomplish this.
