I would like a custom Mark V in 340 weatherby mag with a somewhat light contour barrel and a leupold fx-3 6 power scope. Over kill in several situations but thats just what I would want to have in my hands if it was my only choice.

With the exception of the Nikon scope, This would be the rig! Top that with Swaro., Kahles or Ziess glass and done!

I do like the Monarchs and I was thinking higher end optic, but the only higher end scopes I have dealt with are Nightforce, and I don't like the rotating eye piece, so I put down a scope that I have experience with. I just haven't handled a wide enough variety of high end scopes to fall in love with one like I have the Monarch.

Hey man, I work out 5-6 times/week, and go skiing every year - I'm more fit than most 40+ers I know. But just saying a 26" turnbolt as your ONLY hunting rig? Fine and dandy if you ain't going after mountain goats, bighorn sheep, etc., in the American West, New Zealand, or the Middle Eastern/Nepalese ranges.

I can't tell you how sick I am of the phrase "seven mag" as if there's only one, or better yet, "seven millimeter" without the "mag" part, since then it could be 7mm-08 or 7x57 or .280 rem or .284 Win, also! And the absolute worst pet peeve would be "7 millimeter" in response to a "What RIFLE?" question - a caliber is NOT a rifle!

Ah now that you make me think about it I was thinking of the 7mmRM, but now I'll go with the 7WSM. I really like that guy. When I hear 7mag I automatically think of 7mmRM. I figure it's by far the most common and if someone meant different they would clarify that.

probably a Weatherby Vanguard Sporter in .300 wby. Top that off with a Leupold Mark 4 LR/T 4.5-14x40 scope with a mil dot reticle. Hey, if I only get one gun... it better be able to handle anything I will ever hunt and that might include Big bears.
