If you decided to replace the upper on your AR and you wanted a carbine length barrel, and no fixed front sight (but a rail or folding front sight), and wanted as accurrate a barrel as possible, what would you buy?
14.5" with either a pinned flash hider or proper SBR paperwork from BCM
I'd then swap out the gas block/front sight for something from Larue or YHM. I'd also prefer a DD omega rail if fund permit, along with a decent VFG (the cheaper BCM composite grip has worked great for me so far, so I'd go with that).
Assuming only a modest cash outlay was desired, a Rock River 16" Varmit. Mine dependably shoots 1/2 - 3/4 MOA, and has done sub 1/2 with Federal Gold Medal Match.
I'm sure you'll get many good suggestions here. If money is no object take a look at Sabre Defense, Stag Arms get my vote as well.
I have to ask though, what's holding you back from an 18 or 20" barrel? You can get plenty of accuracy with a carbine but not range or desirable ballistics.
