Spare parts: A2 upper receiver, fixed front sight base and a bolt group. no barrel or handguard.
Its been laying around the bench since I boned it out for the heavy barrel, flat top with free float tube and scoped varmint rig. I also have the tactical carbine covered with another AR so I'm not needing another one of those.
Now I'm thinking I've looked at the spare long enough. I could build another upper and I'm trying to figure out what to do. I really think I want to go as light as possible, no rails, lights, optics, etc. just light, fast, and naked, iron sights.
any suggestions for light barrel and handguard? carbine or mid?
Thanks

i'd just go with a BCM lightweight middy standard handguards and there ya go oh since your saving weight a standard semi-auto bolt carrier would save a little weight

I have friend has a 16" DPMS upper with a plum crazy composite lower and it is superlite. And runs very well indeed! Its just over 6 lbs.

skyshot my dad has the same set up plumcrazy lower dpms lightweight upper yes is is very light but not my cup of tea i'd rather give up a few ounces and run a regular lower. i've shot it and it does shoot well but i'm interested to hear from someone that has a plumcrazy lower and RUN IT HARD and see how those composite parts hold up

In case you didn't know, your front sight base is going to be no use if it was already drilled and pinned to another barrel. Without some serious gunsmithing tools you're not going get a new barrel to match the existing holes in the FSB.
