Thanks guy's for all of the input!!
NOW Onmilo went and tossed in a 34 with very good points.
C.H.Luke made a good point about the two classes ESP & SSP that you can shoot with the Glock.

All I can say is WOW!!! Thanks for all of the choices!!
Be Safe!
F15H

Walther P99

Shorter trigger reset than many other pistols. Much better ergonomics that can also be adjusted for the user. Accuracy is pretty good too.

Another point if use is for IDPA:

If only due to Glock being around for sig. longer, there are many more aftermarket parts available, particularily good sights, if you intend to fine tune your pistol, etc.

Yes it would only be a Game gun. My carry gun is an old S&W model 66. It's just something about the .357 mag. that I can't get away from!

Both are good guns. The glock 17 has the advantage that it has been around for some time and it has proven itself to be reliable and durable. Chuck Taylor (combat arms instructor) has put over 100,000 rounds through his g17 and it's still going. This is why they are often call "boringly reliable." It has also proven that you need to be careful when you handle the g17. Some people have caused an accidental discharge by being negligent. Keep your finger away from the trigger because it will go bang every time. This is a plus when you need to use the gun (it's reassuring). It's a negative if you don't have good gun habbits and don't follow the 4 rules of gun safety. If you use it for idpa, get a holster that covers the trigger when you have it holstered.

The XD is a newer design. It seems to be pretty good. The only complaints I've heard are about the finish. But you can always get it refinished by Springfield or Robar. Here's a good write up about it: http://www.chucktaylorasaa.com/SpringfieldXD9.htm and another http://www.hipowersandhandguns.com/SpringfieldXD9.htm and finally: http://www.sportshooter.com/guns/guns_xd.htm
I have never shot one, but I have handled them. They do feel good in the hand. Springfield also has a lifetime warranty. My suggestion is to definitely try before you buy. Either way I think you are making a good choice.

I shoot my xd better than the glocks that I've had. That is because it fits my small hands better. That being said, it is hard to argue with glocks track record.

In my opinion the XD is an absolutely overrated pistol. Time will tell, but I bet it'll never match a Glock.

I hope not - that would be one hell of a step down. :D

For me, the XD9 is far and away the better platform - in every regard...

I prefer the Glock 19. Go out and try them all, what works for others may not work for you.

i've shot the glock and i now own an XD9. like the feel better cause i grew up with 1911's. i'm very satisfied with it. 3000 rnds later no fte/ftf. you pick it up and it shoots. everyone talks about the crappy finish but mine looks as good as the day i picked it up. the lifetime warranty from springfield also weighed in on my decision and when the AWB sunseted they swapped my 10rnd mags for 15's so now i'm 5rnds happier............ :)

honestly....they are both very good guns. you couldn't go wrong with either. it just comes down to personal preference. hold em in your hand. shoot them if you can. then make your decision.....good luck

Dont forget to look at a G34 either, I just got one in place of the G17 I stupidly sold and really like it, very easy to shoot accurately, for me at least.

My experience exactly! Especially good for the longer shots of 25 & 50 meters practice at.

I own a Beretta 92FS, a Mak, and my most recent a 3rd Genration used Glock 17. I've shot a Steyr M9, Walther P99, and the XD. My choice would be the Glock hands down. The Steyr was very reliable, but the sights are very hard to get used to. The XD looks very ugly to me. I also found that if you are a person with large hands and or fingers, the grip safety will chap your hands. I also developed a blister on my trigger finger from the XDs smaller trigger.

Glock also has the advantage of being on the market longer. Hi-cap mages can be bought from CDNN for $20. I gave my Steyr to my brother-in-law as a birthday gift. It is a patience gun. It takes time to get used to the sights, but when you do, you can be very accurate.

I owned an XD9. It never gave me problems and it was a nice gun. I kind of wish I hadn't sold it. However, I now own a Glock 34. I really don't think there's a better production 9mm for under $1000 new.

I also own a Walther P99. I think I was more accurate with the XD9, it being the same size as the P99.

I own a G34, G22 with extra 9mm barrel (the same thing basically as the 17), and an XD 9. If I had to choose between Glock and SA, I would pick the Glock. IMO the XD9 is top heavy. I didn't want to worry about the rust issue with the XD, so I got the bi-tone.

One thing of MAJOR importance to me is the availability/cost of parts and ease of total disassembly. Glock wins hands down.
