If you were a security contractor in Iraq, what weapons?

I seriously doubt that if you got a job like this, they would give you a wish list and let you choose whatever you wanted to carry. You certainly couldn't just bring with you anything you want. First of all, you couldn't afford most of the stuff listed on this thread before you even started the job.
If you want to know what the best thing to carry is, look at what they ARE carrying. The guys that are working at these jobs are professionals and have probably done something very similar to this their whole adult lives. Their selection of equipment reflects this experience.

"it's the only way to be sure"

:D good line.

what I'd want

a. preferably the best body armor that money can buy. along with high quality and
reliable tactical gear and comm/nav gear.

b. if unable to bring weapons with, pick up a sidefolder AK as soon as possible, along
with plenty of mags. preferably some grenades and a reliable sidearm, there
seem to be plenty of weapons caches recovered by coalition troops, so it
shouldn't be hard to "acquire" adequate weapons.

c. definitely wouldn't want to be working in teams less than 12 guys. preferably with
backup being a Marine division along with air/armor and artillery support (as long
as we are wishing)

and, No, I would not go, for several reasons. 1 being that $100,000 is not alot of money at all considering the risks taken.

much respect to those among us that undertake this type of work. most certainly they are not doing it for the money alone.

Lets make some hardline assumptions: that I have dropped some weight to 200lbs, I received some |337 k0m6@7 $ki||$ (elite combat skills, for the un-initiated :p ), and was working for a decent company without a Pointy-Haired Boss (Manager from Dilbert).

Weapons:

Primary arms:

Rem. M24 SWS (Rem. 700 sniper)
M16, plenty of mags & ammo.
AK47, for when the M16 jams. :p
My Legacy Escort 12ga. 7 shots, breaks down easy.

Pistols:

If I had my choice: 2 10mm EAA Witnesses w/ 180gr HP's from Doubletap.
If I didnt have my choice: 2 1911's, 230gr HP's.
Why 2? So I can go John Woo :D.

Knives:

Leatherman Wave.
Swiss Army. The one that MacGuyver had, the one that adapts to every situation. :D
KA-BAR.
Folder.
2 Boot knives. You never know.

Support: A company of Marines would be a good start. An artilery division in back would be a good addition.

CAS: A squadron of A-10's.

Airial artillery: 3 AC-130's. When "Puff the Magic Dragon" gets mad, you best get out ta' way.

Armor: M-1A2. Several. W/ Bradleys for backup.

Prefered Armor:

At-at-04.jpg
:D

Would I go for $100k? Only if I got an AT-AT.

M1A with ACOG
Valtro 1911
870
Lots of cleaning supplies

> Another question: would you do it for a year, at $100K a year, tax-free?

No thanks.

If I were to lose some weight and gain elite combat training (as well as get paid an obscene amount of money), I'd take with me:

1. An M-16 rifle w/ optics, extra mags, bayonet, and folding stock.
2. An AK-47 w/ extra mags, bayonet, and folding stock.
3. Two Sig 226 9mms, (back up for my back up).
4. Grenade launcher for M-16 w/ a dozen or so shells.
5. Remington 870 w/ mag extension, folding stock, and shortened barrel.
6. A HumVee w/ 3X the standard armor, a more powerful engine, two inch thick bullet proof glass, and larger fuel tanks. not to mention a mounted .50 and a 7.62 machine gun.
7. A K-bar and leatherman tool, and a small folder.
8. Remington 700 PSS and M-21 for range work.
9. A three hundred pound sow (to guard the HumVee).
10. Lots of backup.
11. 11,000 pounds of chocolate (to appease the natives).
