"You are now a 'Homeland Security Deputy' -- what would you do" ???

This is a "make believe" question:

Suppose the US, in their fight against terrorism, sets up a volunteer program so that qualified and trained US citizens can become a non-paid "Homeland Security Deputy."

Say you have limited arrest powers ONLY in reference to acts of terrorism or other violent felonies that take place in your presence.

Say you are allowed, at your own expense, to carry CONCEALED the sidearm and a back-up gun of your choice (as long you can qualify with it).

My "fantasy" question:

What sidearm would you carry and why?

Note: Yes, you would be able you use LEO/Gov't mags as a 'Homeland Security Deputy'.



Me?

I would carry a Sig Sauer .357 (I once shot one owned by a friend, and I really liked it).

My back-up...a trusty S&W J-frame.

Like others have said, there's no difference between your scenario and right now, other than the CrackerJax badge. I'm already carrying, and I'm already going to take out someone I see in the act of committing a terrorist attack.

On a serious note, for years I have said that the United States needs to learn a few lessons from Israel. What is really needed is a volunteer force here at home to help patrol our borders and assist in protecting our infrastructure and high risk areas.

The Israeli National Police Service has an all volunteer citizen component called The Civil Guard. The Civil Guard is responsible for internal security and is composed of civilian volunteers from all sectors who devote a minimum of 12 to 16 hours a month, and frequently more, protecting Israel from terrorist activity. Members of the Civil Guard assist the National Police in everything from traffic, patrol, assist in the intelligence section, assist detectives, search and rescue, marine unit, SWAT unit, border security, work security in schools, and crime prevention.

I seriously doubt it would happen here, but the Department of Homeland Security could really use a US version of The Civil Guard. Members of the unit could work in the BICE section of DHS and be very effective.

Now to the original question. What would I carry if I was a member of the DHS Civil Protective Service? For a service pistol, I would carry either a Glock 22 or Glock 23. If I was working border patrol or guarding an airport, power plant, or some other critical infrastructure, I would carry a pre ban Colt or Bushmaster AR-15 with a 16 inch barrel and four position stock along with my service sidearm.

Do I have to carry it concealed? I have never be comfortable holding a weapon that can be easily concealed, what with this big hands. And if it fits, I can't hide it.

If I don't have to carry concealed, I'd go for a Colt 1911 or maybe a Browning Hipower if I could find one(I'm not very familiar with many pistols but I like the feel of the Colt) and as a back-up something like the Walther PPK, concealed.

I'd arrest anyone who blocked traffic(or worse) for Sabotage during a national emergency. Let the lawyers sort it out. I would demand to see green card for any suspect and hold until Border Patrol took them off my hand if they didn't have one as REQUIRED BY LAW to have on person at all times!

OK, I'll play.

Probably my CZ-40 with one extra mag, perhaps my 1911 once in a while. I know I can shoot them both and they have good stopping power. I'd hope there would be some qualifying involved.

If I had a badge or some kind of official ID, I wouldn't worry about printing too much. "It's OK ma'am, I'm on the job keeping the homeland secure"

I don't think I'd be too worried about backup gun, although maybe a good combat knife and some training in how to use it. I'd suspect that with the Al-Queda, you aren't going to get a second chance if you screw up with the primary weapon though.

I'd definately keep a FAL in the trunk(rural area here).

badges??? don't need no stinkin badges !!! would allow anyone who could qualify carry what they could qualify with .. so there are gonna be some people out there with .50 D E's open and ccw .. and rifles abound .. 1st thing though I would have all Restrictions from the constitution ,state and local laws repealed as per the founding fathers in other words No NFA , NO Brady ,and anybody trying to inact such laws would be considered traitors !!!


Oh yes and I am running for office so vote for me!!!
