If you were going to buy a higher end 1911, or a higher end shooter of any kind.............?

Which high end gun would you choose if you could buy one, and you would NEVER sell it.

There is Harpers Ferry Armory 1911 for $1635. Not sure how good the gun is as I have only seen pictures. Hard to pull trigger on something little known as that price is about same as Dan Wesson which people say is real good.

I do know this much, every shooter should own at least one precision target pistol. They are that satisfying.

Would that include a Smith & Wesson Model 52 (not a 1911 configured pistol but certainly a "precision target pistol")-a pistol that costs far less than most of the "high end" target pistols being discussed? Does a pistol need to cost three or four grand to make the "grade"? Personally, I think not. Colt Gold Cup National Match pistols, for instance, will group as well or better than any high-priced spread, uber-custom pistols made by the likes of Wilson, Baer, Brown or Clark. Mine does.

I guess it all depends on your definition of target pistol. You state the price needed to make the grade and if that is how you determine it is a high end pistol and that works for you, fine. I don't own a Wilson, Baer, Brown or Clark but I shot against them and I am certain they all make a fine 1911. We do have 52 and 952 Smiths and I like them both but don't think of them as the best precision target pistols more as tools designed for specific pistol competitions and still stay within the rules of the applicable sport. I determine precision target pistols by features and performance, not price. It all comes down to what you are looking for.

I'm just scratching my head as to why "a fancy CZ of some kind" isn't winning in a landslide

My Shadow 2 just returned from Cajun Gun Works. Sub 5lb DA with a 3lb SA with 1mm reset with their short reset short reach trigger and 10X bushing installed.

Not even if I drive to your place and let you shoot mine?:D

Tark if you ever get down to Georgia let me know. I doubt I'll ever get to own a firearm in the price range being discussed here. But I would not turn down the chance to shoot one & see what all the fuss is about. To me a Dan Wesson would be high end. For now I'll just have to content myself with my SR 1911.

What do you all think about the CZ Tactical Sport Orange?

I love CZ firearms and I got to shoot the CZ TS Sport Orange. Exceptionally light trigger. A bit bigger in the hand than the CZ 75 but not a monster. I am sure others will have more info but my brief encounter with it was wonderful.

The CZ 75 is a touch too small for my hands. So a little larger frame sounds good to me.

I can only comment on STI since that's the only brand of these that I've owned, but my STI has been absolutely 100% on function. It's accurate and has a great trigger. It's one of the few guns that I've not felt the need to tweak anything on.

I will say though that compared to the others, the STI doesn't LOOK quite as "flashy". For that I'd say Nighthawk seems to be the "purdiest" but I've never fired (or even touched) one.

I love the look of the STI's, for what it's worth.

I have a mental block on the cost of firearms. $2500 dollars is not a difficult sum of money for most people to come up with, but for some reason I can’t bring myself to consider spending that kind of money on a gun. I spend at least that much money every year ice fishing and I just bought a $2500 torque converter to go in the $4000 transmission in my race car which has no practical use, but for some reason I see guns in that money class and I think of them as rediculous waste that nobody can afford. I’m working on getting over that but I will probably always choose to buy 3 or 4 moderately priced used guns than one really expensive custom.

I agree, and as another poster said, you start paying more than $2k for a semi-auto pistol, you are probably not going to realize/feel a big difference in performance from the $2k to the $6k semi auto pistol. IMHO, if you are going to pay more than $2-3k for a semi auto pistol, it all becomes a personal choice situation. In other words, it comes down to looks, more than anything else, IMHO. What pistol simply looks the best to you? Which design is the most pleasing to your eye? The great thing is---

So many great choices!

Would love to do just that, Mike, but I am back to working five days a week at the Rock Island Arsenal Museum. And I wouldn't miss one second of that for anything. I have, in the first two months, got to meet the Secretary of the Army (Mark Esper) , a bunch of Generals, numerous Colonels and a lot of Vets I can swap stories with. A dream come true!!

I understand. I am glad you are staying busy & enjoying life.

What do you all think about the CZ Tactical Sport Orange?

From my post earlier in this thread..

I can tell you I have a little less than 2k in a CZ TS that will smoke all my 1911's at a static range and is my main competition gun. However, the internals and externals look like they were machined and finished by a blind kid reading braille, and I don't care.

My Tactical Sport w/ some CZC work is an older model, I have no experience with the orange with exception of holding one. That said slimming down the grip and the thumb rest are options I would like to do to mine one day.

Thanks for the insight. Sounds like a nice gun with only minor adjustments needed.
