In the kingdom of Brutusvannia all locks on guns would be banned.
All revolvers would have the lock work of a Python with the strength of a Ruger.
All pistols and revolvers would have to be offered with a compatible carbine.
Roll marked or stamped warnings on firearms would be banned
Magazine disconnects would be unheard of because no one in Brutusvannia would be that stupid.
Any politician disagreeing with my rulings would be immediately banished to Chicago or New York or maybe even California but I'm not sure I could be that big of a tyrant.

I would advocate a national holiday in honor of the guy who makes the first 30 shot M1 carbine in 10mm but that's just the way it is in Brutusvannia.:D
.

"Carry whatever you want. However you want. On election day, show up at the polls with your rifle and full ammo pouches, and show your current qualification card to vote."

Anti-gun types would be rounded up and sent to reeducation camps.
Not necessary, in Brutusvannia anti-gunners would be required to pay taxes to augment the cost of protecting their sniveling unpatriotic opinions.
This would eliminate the need to tax ammunition for the more loyal and sensible subjects.

Anyone who proposes, votes for, or is in favor of gun control will be deported to North Korea.

The people shall have the same access to the same firearms as does the military and law enforcement and be freely able to carry them throughout the country unhindered in any way.

The only two classes of people who cannot have firearms are, prisoners in prison. And people who are awaiting deportation to North Korea.

What laws would I make? Only one, no law shall ever be passed restricting, in any manner what so ever, the ability of the people to own whatever firearm or weapon they deem fit to include any and all weapons and vehicles currently, and any future weapons and vehicles, of any armed forces in the world to include our own armed forces. To attempt to do so would be punishable by immediate stripping of citizenship and deportation to any country of the state's choosing.

Every US citizen ( without mental issues or Felons) would have to own at least one firearm, have certified training, and yearly usage. Similar to Sweden used to be. At that point they could decide about concealed carry.
Next, very harsh penalties for gun related crimes.

I do not believe I would bother with "gun control" laws. I would set of code in simple language that all persons of reasonable intelligence could understand. The laws would be few and only necessary for the functioning of a peaceful society. All laws would be agreed upon by a super majority of the population and those laws then enforced to the letter. No plea bargaining, no reduced sentences and no deals. The laws would apply to all equally. Property rights would be paramount and eminent domain would require a super-majority agreement of the population and then the owner would be paid ten times the market value of the property.

Social programs would be the function of the church not the state. No adviser or people's representative would be allowed any remuneration other than his wages. Influence peddling and other such designs would be considered theft of public funds and dealt with harshly.

Mine would be a government of crime control not people control. The right of the peaceful, law abiding citizen would be greater than the rights of the law breaker in the performance of his craft of criminal behavior. Gun control would not be needed simply because such a society the cost of misuse would be far to devastating to bear. And if the criminal ignored the costs he would be removed from society.

Also, the prison systems would be operated as work camps. Fully functioning with compensation equal to the value of the work done. This compensation would be put away for the prisoner to receive on his release so that when he rejoins society he has the wherewithal to live until he can find gainful employment.

That's the best I can do off the top of my head.

I'd say he could "keep" everything after the victims of his crime have been compensated for their losses and the state is reimbursed for "housing" them. Start at $1 million for a death and work down from there.

As a KING I would disarm the people, socialize all services, select a few as Judge, Government Officials, Business and Manufacturer Leaders and only the most loyal would be selected to be armed.

All property would belong to the Crown, any crime against the government would be treated the same as a crime against the KING himself punishable by death and the people will no have any rights.

Say...isn't that the way Merry Old England and France were?

As messy as it is I think the best system remains the majority to determine what laws we live by...which we no longer have.

Those who show they qualified at a Service Rifle Match get a tax break. The better the score, the better the tax break

Just one so that there would be no question of my decree's intent.

The Right of the People to Keep and Bear Arms shall "NOT" be infringed!

I wouldn't muddy it up with phrases like "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State" so some politician or slick lawyer sometime in the future could try to redefine my intent or come up with their own definition of what "IS" is.

I think my head is going to explode reading this thread.

What's being proposed is exchanging one tyranny for another. I sure hope nobody here is being serious.

As for a king, we declared independence from the last one in 1776. Dictators and kings have no place in America, even if they might (temporarily) do the kinds of things we like.

Pretty much what Robert said, except deporting people with opposing views. If I'm king, they can think and want whatever, doesn't mean I'll do anything! Also, I wouldn't require anyone to own, carry, or shoot a firearm, or give breaks to those who do. I'd just want to give people options, then let them decide what is best for them.

If I were king, I'd do many things before getting to "gun laws".... many things that would probably end up with my happy little kingdom being invaded by the United States to be brought back in line...

It's good to be king ...

Well, look what King Cuomo did in The Evil Empire State: he declareth that all guns shall not be loaded with more than seven rounds, and that subject-to-subject transfer of long guns is hereby prohibited without a background check, and that collapsible shoulder stocks shall be prohibited, and … et cetera.

So you see, your post may not be as hypothetical as one would think! :)

I would have very strict laws on gun control.
If you fail to control your guns in a responsible manner that coincides with the four rules, off to the stocks with ye.

Done.

If I was king, I would do the following:

1. Establish minimum quality, performance and reliability standards that all firearms and ammunition manufacturers must meet before being able to sell their products.

2. All pistols must be able to fire 500 rounds of various selected ammunition (FMJ/JHP) right out of the box without failure and meet accuracy standards.

3. All firearms manufacturers must meet maximum failure rate requirements. Tax incentives will go to companies with greater customer satisfaction ratings and lower failure rates. Tax rate will increase for companies with lower customer satisfaction ratings and higher failure rates.

4. Incorporate firearms safety/range training as part of Kindergarten through High School curriculum and allow gun ownership/carry permits issued when competency/proficiency/mental stability is demonstrated and clinically evaluated with annual qualification testing.

5. Unarmed victims of violent crimes will be provided vouchers for firearms and firearms training.

6. Subsidies will be provided to lower income individuals for purchase of firearms in high crime areas with higher subsidies for higher crime areas.

7. Establish construction of free indoor/outdoor ranges (like public libraries) with practical/defensive minimally modified factory firearms matches held at local/regional/kingdom levels with various classes/divisions ranging from junior to senior. Maintenance cost of ranges and match prizes will be subsidized by tax on firearms/accessories/ammunition/reloading component sales.

8. If a shooting case filed by the kingdom is ruled justified, legal/court cost will be reimbursed. If the shooting is ruled unjustified, the guilty will pay the legal/court cost through kingdom work program during incarceration/probation. If victim/family files a lawsuit for a shooting incident and loses the case due to justified shooting ruling, the accuser pays accused's legal fees.

9. Importation of substandard firearms/magazines/parts/ammunition will be banned.

10. Make THR the official gun forum of the kingdom.

Just as in past Kingdoms a soon to be wed woman must first lay with the King, I would impose that all newly purchased fire arms must first be fired by the King.

Then after that got boring;
1= repeal the 17th amendment and return the Senate to a body of state representatives, held accountable by state gov.
2=Tax reform. All taxes would be in one form. One sales, consumption based tax.
Business and manufacturers would pay no taxes, as that would just be passed on to the consumer acting as a hidden fee. The federal Government would be restricted of any function other than national security, interstate commerce, enforcement of federal law. All else would be handled by the states.
3=The act of congress creating agencies capable of writing, and enforcing regulation without a vote of congress would be prohibited.
4=Neglect to perform sworn duties of office would result in immediate surrender of position.
5= Social support of any kind will be the responsibility of the states independently. No reason for that money to go to the federal docket just to come back to the state.
6= All votes of congress regarding legislation, must meat a 75% approve vote in order to pass. Repeal of any law or regulation must have 51%.

I think I could go on forever on this, but ultimately after a lot of restoration,
I would return this country to the people, give up the crown, and go home.
