If you were king what gun laws would you make?

1. Always keep your gun pointed in a safe direction.
2. Always be sure of your target and what is beyond.
3. Keep your finger off the trigger until you're ready to fire.

Doesn't anybody want to see a M1 carbine in 10MM?
Some of you guys are missing the point, Here in Brutusvannia none of these draconian laws exist, politicians perform their duties for the good of the people and loyalty to Brutusvannia and they receive no pay, kind of like the founding fathers who created America.

Selective Service is mandatory for males and females. Upon registration each individual is awarded an M1 Garand and an entry into a government sponsored basic rifle handling and marksmanship course.

If I were king guns would be banned so they could not be used against my regime (duh ;))

If you were a fair and kindly king that put their people's needs above your own, you wouldn't have to worry about that now would you...

I would ban .22 LR's so I'd never have to see or hear another discussion about:

- how hoarders are ruining it for everyone
- flippers are ruining it for everyone
- manufacturers are ruining it for everyone
- new shooters are ruining it for everyone
- and "I'm smart because I owned a bunch of it before a random spike in
demand caused supply to run short"

Then I'd go to the shooting range. :D

You need to get out into the real world. You could be the fairest, most kindliest king ever known. There will still be an uncountable number of people wanting your job and willing to do whatever it takes (including rebellion and murder) to get it. No amount of laws you make is going to change human nature.

My first decree would be that Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, and Diane Feinstein are be fired and have to work at the local gun store, which would now ACTUALLY be stocked with Uzis, bazookas (yes...the ones we used in WWII), grenades, and other assorted evil weapons they told us could be bought on any street corner.

I would also have them sit on the street corner after selling such weapons to see if things would turn into the "wild wild west".

The King would take much pleasure in this.

I think my head is going to explode reading this thread.

What's being proposed is exchanging one tyranny for another. I sure hope nobody here is being serious.

As for a king, we declared independence from the last one in 1776. Dictators and kings have no place in America, even if they might (temporarily) do the kinds of things we like.

^^^This. We complain about people not giving us our rights. Making others have guns that don't want them is just as much of an infringement of rights as not letting us have them.
Sorry, but I wouldn't want most of you in charge apparently.

Heck that's easy-- everyone would be required to own a firearm and be required to know how to use it safely. Whether they ever pick it up is up to them. On yeah, and you could make and own NFA items without any taxes or registration. :neener: Hey I can dream, can't I?

If we're being more specific, I would make a law that, by a certain time (16, 18, high school graduation, or something), every one must be able to demonstrate the very basic knowledge of use and function.

Every household either shows a receipt or bill of sale for a firearm or gets to pay a one-time or once-every-several-year tax based on the price of some very basic, inexpensive firearm, to fund the local police.

I would make the NRA Eddy Eagle program mandatory in every school.

I would offer basic marksmanship classes in all junior highs.

I would offer a variety of shooting sports in all high schools.

I would make the sale or listening to of rap "music" a horsewhipping offense. (I know thats not gun related but I really hate that stuff and I'm king.)

Only one:

Everyone, except violent crimanals, would have the right to keep and bear arms. No restrictions on the type or number of weapons a citizen can own. Furthermore, no restrictions on ammo or accessories will be imposed.

Poaching with a firearm? No more firearms for you, ever.
Commit a robbery or violent crime with a firearm? Mandatory 20 yrs. No early release. Nope.
If a convicted violent offender is later caught with a firearm on his person, mandatory death penalty.

All public schools would teach safe firearms handling and marksmanship as a required course. Long guns in elementary school from grade 6. Handguns added to the curriculum in high school. Trap/skeet, 3-gun, and USMC rifle range as electives.

Public shooting ranges would be available in every city with mandatory facilities available for shotgun, handgun, rifle to 600 meters, sub-machinegun, and belt-fed machinegun ranges. These will be funded by the government.

Adults would pay a one-time firearms tax and have a choice of government provided handgun and rifle. Of course any and all other firearms will be freely available on the open market - no restrictions. Conscientious Objectors would have to pay an additional annual tax for requiring others to provide for their security if they opt out of owning firearms.

Any person publicly voicing an opinion to change any laws and restrict ownership of firearms in any way will be classified as a Conscientious Objector and required to pay the additional tax and have any weapons – firearms, blades, or clubs - confiscated from them. All of their kitchen knives will have the points removed from the tip to a line one inch towards the handle.

Ammunition in military calibers will be publicly subsidized and available for a nominal fee at the public range or shipped to your home at subsidized rates. Each locality can hold elections to add any other calibers to the list of military calibers to be provided to the public in the same manner.

Military service will still be voluntary. Veterans will be able to keep and bear any issue weapons at their personal discretion – provided at cost. This covers small arms, mortars, grenade launchers, artillery, and any other ordinance and vehicles. Maintenance costs will be covered by the owners. If the king requires you to use a weapon to protect the kingdom at the risk of your own blood and your own life you will be allowed to hold that weapon for as long as that blood still courses through your veins.

Part of the citizenship testing process for immigrants will include safe gun handling, and rifle and pistol marksmanship.

The only people for whom open or concealed carry will be restricted will be those with visual or physical impairments to ensure that weapons and training provided will be suitable for their abilities.

As a few people have already mentioned, I would immediately ban all private ownership of firearms...after all, that'd be the best way to ensure I was still king in a few years. We can't have the peasants armed when they don't like my taxes. I think the question should be rephrased as my ideal gun laws as a private citizen are very different from my ideal gun laws as an autocrat.

Do you want it?

Can you afford it?

Can you afford ammo?

Great.

Use it to commit a crime and King Christopher will drop the hammer on you.

Gun ownership would be per U.S. vs Miller: any firearm used by the military would be legal for ownership and carry, open or concealed as applicable. No tax, fee, permit, permission required.

If I wished to remain king, I would disarm the hoi polloi and combine the army and police into one powerful unit under my complete control. The Crown would control all wealth which I would benevolently dribble out to my subjects to win their love. I would be the ultimate arbiter of all disputes, and I would endeavor to train my subjects not to think for themselves and let ME handle everything. Eventually I would be indispensable in everyone's life.

Wow some of you guys are real dictators. Here in Brutusvannia the benevolent king Brutus reigns in the background. His sole function in the kingdom is to keep a watchful eye on the bureaucrats and politicians and when they step out of line, off with their heads. Other than that he's to busy staving off all the beautiful movie stars and models who constantly clamor for his attention.
What the hell, if I'm going to dream, might as well dream big.;)

"If you were king what gun laws would you make?"

I wouldn't make any gun laws. I'd abolish them all. There would be murder laws, violence laws, property laws, theft laws, but no gun laws.
