Before I ever thought of buying an AR I owned a bolt action deer rifle and a 12 gauge pump. In the past I owned a .30-.30 lever gun. I pretty much agree with Berger. Fan 222. FWIW I'm not talking down the AR-15 but there are other options. Most of my range time (which I don't get enough of lately) is spent with handguns & .22 rifles. Not much more fun than a .22.

I have a half dozen battle rifles that are competent, and IMO have more soul and give me more joy than my ARs.

The AR is overhyped. My FAL or Garand makes me feel so much more warm inside.

Capt O likes to post up semi dumb questions and then watch as others try to answer them. Normally I refuse to respond to his posts.

In this case.......I couldn't help myself. :cuss:

Probably a Mini-14 of some sort. I want to add a Ranch Rifle to the safe.

So you think that either Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders wouldn't do their best to push through another AWB?

I don't think the question is that far fetched.

Yes but a ban wouldn't be just AR's.

But you did accomplish something. It looks like the people who don't personally prefer AR's wouldn't care if they went away. That can't be good for any gun owners!

Well you finally provided some context for your question, but there's no telling what firearms would be affected by a new AWB.

Just because quite a few wouldn't miss them doesn't mean we would be ok with a ban, why would you think that?

Mainly the trivialized answers to the vague question, but I got that vibe. HOPE I'm wrong!

If there is a new AWB - all semis with detachable mags (like Carbines) will be banned. There will also be a mandatory turn in.

If this is another love the Carbine thread - Yawn. So Obvious.

Now the question is what long arm will survive such a ban and it's purpose. Shorter level action pistol caliber for home SD.

But such a ban will also encompass the semis with higher capacity mags.

Everyone should own an AR even you you don't like them or don't shoot them. Why? because every time an AR is purchased or shot, they become that much harder to ban. <deleted>

Banning alchohol worked, didn't it? Canada and Mexico aren't that far away.

The Ares rifle is the only AR series style rifle that ever intrigued be, believe it or not. I would love to try one out.

As for me...whatever I have handy. I don't have a single AR. Mine might look like this...

For a different (but, in my case, more relevant) spin on the question, "If I were prohibited from having a Mini-14, what other rifle would I pick?", it would probably be an AR-15. :neener:

I would still own and shoot an AR. No law circumventing the Constitutional Guaranteed right to do so will stop me from doing so.

Do not give in to this takeover of our country by our enemies.

If you were prohibited from shooting an AR ....

    I don't own an AR.

My Marlin 336W .30-30 lever, Puma 1892 .357 lever, Taurus .22 Mag pump, cover my field rifle use. I rely on a revolver and pump shotgun for home security.

But I have relatives and friends who use ARs (with right bullet weight) for medium game and varmint hunting and self-defense. And I shoot in local military matches with my M1 Carbine and Yugo M70AB2 (I suspect a prohibition on ARs would try to take those too).

So I will defend the right of AR owners to own and use ARs for all lawful traditional firearms purposes, self defense, hunting, recreational target practice, civilian marksmanship practice (civilian ownership and training with military issue arms is especially protected under US v Miller 1939 if one reads it and not the usual op-ed commentary).

I will especially resist a prohibition on ARs because I know it will not accomplish any crime-control purpose.

If I were prohibited from shooting an AR? My wife and I bought a copy of "Satanic Verses" just because the jihadists had issued a fatawa against Rushdie. Hmmm. I have a friend who has too many ARs and needs some money right now....

Anyone else remember the episode of American Pickers where they were trapped in a barn by a patrolling emu? With my fenced-in back yard, one of those red-eyed feathered fiends would be good northside security.

The OP has now clarified that despite his misleading opening post he's really concerned with another AWB. Rather than wasting our energy here discussing which rifles we'd switch to if some of our current rifles were banned, I'd strongly encourage everyone to spend some time in our Activism forums where we can do meaningful things to stop another AWB from happening.
